Epic Universe isn’t the only new thing coming to Universal Orlando!
A recently filed permit confirmed that Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit would be closed and demolished, and eventually replaced by another attraction. Of course, Universal hasn’t clued us into what this new attraction might be, but it does look like things are quickly moving forward as another permit has been filed for this project.
Universal Orlando has filed a new permit for the replacement of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit! The ride is scheduled to close in August 2025 to make way for a new attraction — though we don’t exactly know what it will be yet.
According to information listed on the permit, it appears to be related to the construction of a new 2-story building near Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon. This structure will be known as “Building 51.”
The permit appears to be for one of these two proposed new structures for the project. The top one is right next to the Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon building, while the bottom building is a backstage parking lot directly behind Rip Ride Rockit. It’s often used for haunted house queues at Halloween Horror Nights.
The original demolition permit for Rip Ride Rockit is to “remove existing attraction and replace with proposed attraction,” and the plans show updates to the landscaping and structures in the area. The work would cover everything around the ride, plus some backstage spots. The plans even mention a few new buildings being added to the mix.
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit thrilled riders with its opening in August 2009 and has been an iconic attraction since, thanks to its ability to allow riders to select a song of their choice while zooming through the Production Central area of the park. Changes have been already made to the coaster before the permit, with a shorter list of songs left to choose from.
We’ll be on the lookout for more updates on whatever this new attraction might be at Universal Orlando. In the meantime, stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest theme park news!
