So it’s bound to happen when you fly on a plane, whether you’re going to Disney World or somewhere else. Yep, you’re going to have to use the bathroom. The urge happens and, well, you can’t do anything about it but listen to your body.
Now, it’s kinda a hassle to use those tiny little bathrooms because you first have to get out of your seat (and you can only do that if the “fasten seatbelt” sign above your seat is off). You might even have to get past other people if you’re not sitting on the aisle, and then you have to make your way to the closest facilities. Once you’re in there, though, there’s a very important rule you need to follow. There’s usually a sign on the toilet seat that tells you not to put things in there. So don’t do that, because, on one recent flight, people did…and it got…well, gross.

According to CNN, an Air India flight from Chicago to New Delhi recently had to return after hours into its trip because the bathroom toilets were clogged up. Yes, people were just shoving everything into the toilets, even though you’re not supposed to do that.
About one hour and 45 minutes into the flight, the crew were notified that some toilets on the plane were out of order. Later, it was determined that 8 out of the 12 toilets on the aircraft were “unserviceable” resulting in “discomfort to all on board.” An investigation revealed that “polythene bags, rags, and clothes,” as well as other items had been flushed down the toilets and were “stuck in the plumbing.”
The plane was then diverted back to Chicago, where passengers were provided with accommodations at local hotels and alternate flights. Perhaps what’s more shocking is that this isn’t the first time things have been found in Air India toilets. A spokesperson said that “blankets, innerwear, and diapers, among other waste, have been flushed down toilets on other flights.”
Anyway, we wanted to reiterate that you should NEVER flush anything in aircraft toilets. There are indications that this is against the rules and if people continue to do that, you very well could not make it to your destination. If you must rid yourself of trash, there are small trash receptacles in each bathroom PLUS flight crew come through the cabin collecting trash during flights (or you could even ask them to throw something away for you).
