Mufasa’s reign begins in a few weeks!

We’ve known for a bit that Mufasa: The Lion King would be coming to Disney+ in March, thanks to Dana Walden, the co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, confirmed the “late March” timeline at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference earlier this month. However, we didn’t have a specific date… UNTIL NOW!
In an exclusive reveal to People, Disney confirmed that the film — which has made over $700 million at the worldwide box office — will premiere on the Disney+ streaming service on Wednesday, March 26th.
The official synopsis for the film, which finished in the top 7 worldwide in 2024, reads“Exploring the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands, Mufasa: The Lion King enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.”

The film stars Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Tiffany Boone, Donald Glover, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Blue Ivy Carter and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, with new songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda.
