Disney World is expensive – we get it.
Between ticket prices, dining costs, and souvenirs, a Disney World vacation can start to feel more like a financial mountain than a magical escape. Also, with price hikes becoming a yearly tradition, planning your trip without breaking the bank can feel downright impossible. But don’t worry – we’ve got got a couple of solid strategies to help you make that Disney magic happen without draining your bank account. Let’s dive in!
Buy Discounted Disney Gift Cards
If you’re looking for a simple way to save money on your Disney trip without cutting back on the fun, start buying discounted Disney gift cards.
Places like Sam’s Club, Target, and BJ’s Wholesale often sell Disney gift cards for less than their face value, giving you a built-in discount before you even set foot in the parks.
Here’s how it works: say you have a Target Circle Card (used to be called RedCard).
With the 5% discount you get on purchases, a $50 Disney gift card will only cost you $47.50. It might not seem like much at first, but the savings add up quickly when you start buying cards regularly.
For example, if you buy just one $25 gift card every month for a year and save 5% on each, you’ll have $300 in Disney gift cards by the end of the year – and you’ll have saved $15 just by buying them strategically. That’s $15 you can spend on your favorite Disney treat like a DOLE Whip or a Mickey-shaped pretzel instead!
Even better, these cards can be used just about anywhere on Disney property, from merchandise shops to quick-service dining locations and even EPCOT festival food booths. So not only are you saving money, but you’re also giving yourself a prepaid budget for all those magical extras.
Our “Pro tip”: If you’re heading to Sam’s Club or BJ’s, you may find deals offering bundled gift cards for slightly less than their combined value. Keep an eye out for those multi-card packs for even more savings.
Take Advantage of the Free Disney Dining Plan Promo
Disney’s Free Dining Plan promotion is back for 2025, and it could be a game-changer for families looking to save big on dining. Here’s the deal: if you book a non-discounted 3-night, 3-day minimum Disney vacation package with a Park Hopper ticket and a stay at a select Disney Resort hotel, you can snag a free dining plan for vacations between May 27th and June 26th or July 7th and August 6th, 2025.
What does this mean for your budget? Essentially, Disney is offering to cover your family’s dining costs – which can be one of the most expensive parts of any trip. Think about it: instead of paying out of pocket for those character breakfasts, EPCOT snacks, or quick-service meals, you’ll already have those costs built into your package.
However, there’s a catch. To qualify for the Free Dining Plan, you’ll need to book a non-discounted vacation package, which means you can’t stack this offer with other potential discounts, like reduced hotel rates or ticket bundles. In some cases, skipping the free dining offer and opting for a discounted package might actually save you more money.
The key here is to do a little math. Let’s say your family of four typically spends $200 per day on food at Disney. If your trip is five days long, that’s $1,000 in dining costs you could avoid by using the Free Dining Plan promo. But if skipping the dining plan means you can save $1,200 on your hotel and tickets, the discounted package might be the better deal.
Our advice? We’d recommend pulling out the ol’ calculator and compare the numbers. Look at how much you’re likely to spend on food versus how much you’d save with other available offers. And don’t forget to think about what’s important to you and your family. For some, the convenience of having meals prepaid might outweigh any potential savings.
Start Saving Today
Just remember, planning a Disney trip is all about being strategic. Start small by setting aside a little each month with gift cards, and keep an eye on Disney’s special offers page to snag the deals that work best for you. With some thoughtful planning, you can make your dream trip happen – without feeling like you’ve emptied your wallet along the way.
