We’re celebrating one of the BEST festivals at Disney California Adventure — the Lunar New Year Festival!
This festival brings special entertainment, characters, and more, to Disneyland, but of course, we’re most excited about the food booths with all sorts of new and returning eats to try! Right now, we’re getting ready to check out some festival offerings from the Sketch Pad Cafe at Pixar Place Hotel.
Menu
Over at Sketch Pad Cafe, they’re serving up some sweet treats for the Lunar New Year Festival including a fun take on a fortune cookie and a delicious-sounding whoopie pie!
We’re not wasting any time here, people.
Eats
We decided to get down to business and try one of the new eats at this festival — the Giant Brown Butter and Lemon Fortune Cookie for $9. It’s made with brown butter and lemon zest and comes with a lemon or chocolate glaze.
This was a cool idea in theory, but the execution was a bit lacking. The texture was too chewy compared to the fortune cookies you get at your local takeout spot, and it was super sweet. The lemon does stand out but it’s really sweet and has a little too much sugar in our opinion.
It’s not terrible, but the consistency is lacking and $9 for this is probably overpriced. It looks cool, but the taste leaves something to be desired.
Next up, we grabbed the Red Velvet and Creme Cheese Whoopie Pie for $8. This is cream cheese frosting sandwiched between two red velvet cake cookies and it certainly sounds like our beloved Red Velvet Whoopie Pie from Sunshine Seasons at EPCOT (that has recently popped up in other locations!)
This, on the other hand, was really delicious — if you like red velvet, give this a try! The cream cheese was really sweet and tasty while maintaining a great texture with no grittiness, but the cake was slightly dry so the icing was doing a lot of work. It was rich and chocolatey, and we thought it could use more filling. The topping was dry itself and didn’t really help with the dryness of the cake, but it was still tasty!
Overall though, we think we’ll take our beloved Red Velvet Whoopie Pies from Disney World over this one!
During the Lunar New Year Festival, you can also find a Coconut Custard Bao Bun for $5, Strawberry and Chocolate Chip Overnight Oats for $12, a Coconut Matcha Latte with sweet mango purée and coconut jelly for $7/16oz or $8.50/20oz, and a Taro Dirty Milk Tea with rainbow agave boba for $7/16oz or $8.50/20oz at Sketch Pad Cafe.
Overall
Make sure you stop by Sketch Pad Cafe at Disney’s Pixar Place Hotel if you want to get your hands on these sweet treats!
In the meantime, we’ll be bringing you our full reviews of even more Lunar New Year booths and eats. Don’t forget to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog so you don’t miss any important announcements or updates!
