In Central Florida, we’re preparing for a major storm.
Hurricane Milton is set to roll through the state in the next few days, and businesses and residents are prepping to deal with the fallout. Theme parks have modified procedures and booking policies, while government officials are encouraging people to take Tuesday to gather supplies. But if you’re taking a flight out, what do things look like at the airport?

As of Tuesday, October 8th in the morning, the Orlando International Airport (MCO) has had 22 flights delayed and 115 canceled. These numbers will likely continue to rise as storm conditions worsen.
Yesterday, MCO announced that they’ll be ceasing all commercial operations starting at 8AM on Wednesday, October 9th to prepare for the hurricane. At that time, the airport will still be open to welcome disaster relief and emergency flights, but will not be available as a shelter or for commercial passengers.
The hurricane has weakened slightly but still remains a very powerful storm that will likely be destructive, according to USA Today. “Milton has the potential to be one of the most destructive hurricanes on record for west-central Florida,” John Cangialosi, a specialist with the National Hurricane Center, warned in an update Tuesday. He noted that damaging winds, life-threatening storm surge, and heavy rainfall will extend outside the forecast cone.
We’re closely monitoring conditions in the Central Florida area and looking out for any warnings or weather alerts. We’ve also been watching Disney World and other tourist attractions for any operational changes — at this time, Disney World has updated its cancelation policies and closed some hotel offerings, but the theme parks remain open.
We’ll keep you in the loop as we learn more information, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest.
