Hurricane Helene continues to hamper Disney operations on the East Coast of the United States.
Just this week, a state of emergency was declared for Disney World and 61 counties in Florida after Hurricane Helene strengthened and shifted course from the Gulf of Mexico, making its way into Central Florida. However, Disney World isn’t the only Disney destination affected by this storm, as we now know that the Disney Cruise Line is submitting warnings as well.
On September 26th, 2024, the Disney Wish warned that it is making operational adjustments as a result of Hurricane Helene that could delay when the cruise ship makes port.
The Disney Cruise Line reached out regarding the Disney Wish’s departure on September 27th, 2024 from Port Canaveral and issues that may arise. Addressing possible delays, the company wrote the following:
“As you may be aware, Hurricane Helene is predicted to pass through the Gulf of Mexico near the coast of Florida on Thursday. Due to the storm, the U.S. Coast Guard is planning to close Port Canaveral. Before the port can reopen, the Coast Guard must verify that the channel is safe for cruise ship operations. Because of this, we anticipate that the Disney Wish will arrive into Port Canaveral on Friday, September 27, later than originally scheduled.”
The delay was also noted on the Disney Cruise Line’s website.
The warning has been in place as of September 26th at 10:30AM and is advising Disney Wish guests sailing on September 27th to postpone their arrival to the terminal by five (5) hours after their selected port arrival time, but no later than 7PM. Per an official Disney statement, “Guests will not be able to access the cruise terminal or parking facility in Port Canaveral until four (4) hours after their selected port arrival time.”
The Disney Cruise Line also noted that guests who have purchased motorcoach transportation from a Walt Disney World Resort and Hyatt Regency Orlando Hotel will receive a separate communication about their scheduled transfer times.

Rainfall and high winds have already impacted Disney World so we’re not shocked by this latest Disney announcement. If you are currently or plan on traveling to Florida over the next few days, we suggest bringing rain gear and essentials that can get you through the storm. Additionally, Disney World closures do happen due to inclement weather so you should be prepared for that as well.
We’ll continue to keep you posted on Hurricane Helene updates as they develop.
