A State of Emergency was just declared by Governor Ron DeSantis as Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine is predicted to gain strength quickly and head towards Florida.
The State of Emergency lists 41 counties in Florida as the state prepares for the threat of severe weather later this week.
Currently, the counties that make up Disney World are not included in the State of Emergency. However, that does not mean that Disney World will not experience severe weather from the storm.
As well, the storm is not currently expected to make landfall until later this week, so there will likely still be shifts in what areas will be most impacted. The Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine is currently located in the Caribbean Sea and it is expected to intensify into a hurricane as it nears western Cuba and the northeastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.
The current models for the storm have it making landfall near the Florida panhandle, but again, the models will likely change as the storm continues to move. As stated in the State of Emergency, the storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall, flooding, and gusty winds which will result in widespread power outages.
If you are heading to Disney World soon or are already at Disney World, you will want to keep an eye on this storm. While Disney World is well prepared for hurricanes, you will still want to take the necessary precautions to make sure your group stays safe.
You will want to pack smart and make sure you have rain jackets and ponchos. We also recommend packing Ziploc bags to keep valuables dry and stock your hotel room with your favorite snacks and drinks. While the storm is not currently predicted to be a direct hit for Disney World, it is possible that parts of Disney World could close due to the severe weather. Make sure you are keeping an eye on the weather, so you stay informed of the current conditions.
We have a whole video dedicated to surviving hurricane season and severe weather in Disney World. This is the perfect time to check it out as the storm makes its way towards Florida:
Stay tuned to DFB for more updates as Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine develops and continues to move.
