Something is ALWAYS changing in Disney World.
However, it seems like we’ve seen a LOT more change than usual over the past few years. EPCOT got a complete transformation, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is opening to the public soon, Country Bear Jamboree will reopen soon with a new show, Magic Kingdom is getting an expansion, Animal Kingdom’s Dinoland is getting re-themed, and more! Another big change is that The Voyage of The Little Mermaid show is closed to make way for a new show — and we’re starting to see signs of progress on that show.
“The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” is the name of the new show, and it’s expected to open in Hollywood Studios in the Animation Courtyard Theatre, the same space that was previously occupied by “The Voyage of the Little Mermaid.”
The new show will be inspired by the 1989 animated film, The Little Mermaid, and will bring Ariel’s journey from mermaid to human in a new way. The new show will include music from the film, including “Part of Your World” and “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” as well as “Kiss the Girl,” which will be a new addition.
We visited the building today where “The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure” will be shown, and we noticed something new: construction walls are now up around it!
This could mean Disney Imagineers are hard at work bringing this new show to life behind those walls. We already know the team at Disney Live Entertainment has been working on the new show for over a year.
We recently saw Disney post casting notices for the show’s cast, including Ariel, “a spirited, fun-loving, yet curious mermaid princess who longs to be a part of the human world” and Prince Eric, “a true romantic who never gives up on his heart’s desire.”
In the meantime, if you still need more Little Mermaid in your life, you can meet Ariel at her grotto in Fantasyland and ride Under The Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid in Magic Kingdom. You can also meet the live-action Ariel at Walt Disney Presents in Hollywood Studios.
