California investigators have opened up an investigation into a tragic death at Disneyland.
On Friday June 7th, Bonnye Lear – – an administrator at Disneyland’s Club 33 – – died from injuries suffered two days earlier at the park. On June 5th Lear had been riding a golf cart in a backstage area near Critter Country when she fell off the vehicle.
According to the California Department of Industrial Relations, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health is investigating the incident. This is common procedure, as Disneyland is required by law to report any serious injury or fatality on property to Cal/OSHA within eight hours. The company is also required to preserve any physical evidence related to any accident.
According to the OC Register, once the investigation is complete, Cal/OSHA’s “enforcement safety engineers will file an Injury and Illness Incident Report and can take enforcement actions ranging from notices or citations to monetary or criminal penalties.” In addition to the Cal/Osha investigation, Anaheim detectives have also opened up up an investigation into the accident, which is also standard procedure. Disney hasn’t commented on the investigation or any potential changes to their safety procedures as of now.
Our friend Danny posted this kind tribute to Lear:
I used to work with Bonnye, and she was quite literally the kindest human who worked at the Disneyland Resort. This is truly very sad for her family and fellow Cast at the Club. 😔😔😔 https://t.co/G7gXAVFQCr pic.twitter.com/KkHyh9gVXD

Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock did release a statement on the incident, saying “We are heartbroken by the loss of Bonnye and offer our sincere condolences to everyone who cared for her. At this time, we are focused on supporting her family and our cast members through this tragic event and making sure they have the resources they need.”
Stay tuned for updates on this investigation.
