In case you haven’t heard the news, Moana 2 is on its way!
Yep, the brand new animation will be in theaters on November 27th, and Disney has prepped us for the new film with the first official trailer. Moana was the most-streamed movie across all platforms in 2023, so it’s safe to say that the film franchise has a large audience with some BIG expectations for this upcoming film! Said audience really showed up and showed out ALREADY when the trailer was released.
People reported that the Moana 2 trailer broke the record for the Disney trailer with the MOST views in under 24 hours.
Yep, the trailer beat even Inside Out 2 and Frozen 2 with over 178 million views in under 24 hours.
People reported that those views came from across social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, X and YouTube.
In case you’re not familiar with the story of Moana and how she came to be such a superheroine allow us to recap for a moment. Moana is the daughter of the village chief (try not to sing past that line, y’all) on the island of Montonui. She finds herself mysteriously drawn to the sea over and over again as she grows and with a little help from her Grandmother (who at the time is the only one who encourages her connection with the sea), sets out on a quest to save her people who are experiencing a rapid decay of their beautiful lands and destroying their resources.
She meets Maui the demi-God along the way and with his cunning wit and charm (although he does tend to get in the way a bit) is able to overcome multiple challenges to restore the heart of Te Fiti and renew her village’s island.
The trailer implies that the sequel will take us along with Moana, Pua, Hei Hei, and Maui as they voyage across the seas connect with the rest of their people — as her ancestors have instructed.
We can only imagine what sort of chaos and mischief the four will come across, and we can’t wait to see it in theaters on November 27th.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated with more Disney news and advice, so make sure to follow along so that you’re always in the loop and never miss a thing.
