Is it just me, or is planning and booking flights one of the most STRESSFUL parts of any vacation?
The stress starts long before you actually head to the airport, as you’ll need to scope out the best dates to fly and pay for said flights in advance. Speaking of paying for flights…that can truly be the worst part! The good news is that airfare seems to be getting cheaper, and one news outlet has an idea why. They also think that flights could continue to get cheaper. Let’s talk about it!
The Orlando Sentinel reported that airfare is down 6% from 2023 based on prices from January 2024. Moreover, prices are down 15% from airfare seen a decade ago. But…what’s causing this?
Well, the Sentinel explained that the lowering fares in the midst of global inflation is likely caused by more airplanes, more routes, and more flights. This is still surprising, though, considering the ongoing pilot shortage.
Based on consumer price index data published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the American Express Global Business Travel Air Monitor 2024 shared that prices on certain international routes may drop as much as 12% throughout the year.
They predict the following:
- South America to North America: Drop by 11.9%.
- North America to Central America: Drop by 7.8%.
- North America to Asia: Drop by 7.5%.
- Asia to North America: Drop by 5.2%.
- North America to Europe: Drop by 3.5%.
- Europe to North America: Drop by 1.2%
Not only could this be caused by an increase in flight availability, but a lot more folks are returning to their travels in a post-pandemic world. Further, budget airlines continue to battle for a spot atop the pyramid by lowering prices to compete with each other.
So… 2024 might just be the TIME to book those vacations! We’re always looking out for more travel and vacation news, so make sure to follow along so that you’re always in the loop.
