Disney World certainly comes up with some unique restaurant ideas.
Just think about it: you’ve got Sci-Fi Dine-In at Hollywood Studios, a restaurant where you can sit in a “car” and watch old movies while dining on burgers and fries. Then you’ve got Skipper Canteen in Magic Kingdom that takes you on a culinary adventure worthy of the Jungle Cruise. However, the concept behind Space 220 in EPCOT might be the most unique because it takes you to “space” to dine among the stars. Well, here’s the thing — a REAL LIFE Space 220 restaurant is on the way.
Michelin-starred Chef Rasmus Munk of Alchemist is teaming up with a space tourism company called SpaceVIP to create an ACTUAL dining experience in REAL space in the world’s first carbon-neutral space capsule. Yes, you could eat and drink in REAL space. The Spaceship Neptune balloon will take you 100,000 feet above sea level, where you can watch the sunrise over the Earth’s curvature while you dine on 5-star cuisine.
But it gets even better. Everyone who dines at the space restaurant will also receive made-to-measure outfits by French fashion house La Maison Ogier. FANCY. Yeah, we bet you’re starting to imagine that this experience will probably cost considerably more than Space 220. Well, you would be right — the price per person is about $500,000, per Bloomberg. Okay, that’s a little rich for our blood.
However, that money will go to a good cause. The proceeds from this space expedition will benefit Space Prize, which promotes gender equality in science and technology. So, if you do have half a million lying around, we can’t think of a more fun and worthy way to spend it!
For us, though, we’ll just have to be happy with our fake space experience on Space 220. But we do have to admit that the Stellarvator ride there is pretty cool: it’s a ride AND a meal.
Something tells us the food on Spaceship Neptune might be a bit better, though.
