We’ve talked frequently in the past about what happens when Disney characters enter the public domain.
Mickey Mouse in his Steamboat Willie form entered the public domain at the beginning of 2024, but before even that, Winnie the Pooh became public domain back in 2022. Now that Disney no longer exclusively owns the rights to Winnie the Pooh, people have been doing some WILD things with his image…including making horror films!
When our beloved Pooh bear first entered the public domain, he became the star of a low-budget slasher horror film called Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey. But those filmmakers aren’t stopping there — a NEW Pooh-themed movie is coming soon!
Variety announced on Twitter/X that the filmmakers behind the first movie are now releasing a sequel. This new movie will be called Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble and will feature Winnie the Pooh alongside other characters like Bambi, Tinker Bell, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Tigger, Piglet, The Mad Hatter, and Sleeping Beauty.
The filmmakers behind “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” have unveiled “Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble,” bringing together Pooh, Bambi, Tinkerbell, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Tigger, Piglet, The Mad Hatter and Sleeping Beauty for an IP-bludgeoning frenzy due for release in 2025.… pic.twitter.com/Mhou4tOwOk
