There is BIG business in Disney Parks memorabilia.
We’re always seeing auctions for things like actual ride vehicles, animatronics used in rides, animatronic skins, and more! It’s all about nostalgia, right? Well, if you’re still nostalgic about Disney World’s The Great Movie Ride (gone, but not forgotten), you might just have to raise some serious cash for a piece of Disney ride history on eBay.
Okay, so let’s take it all the way back to 1989. Big hair was in. A mad scientist was shrinking his kids in a movie. The Love Shack was HOPPING. And The Great Movie Ride was opening in Disney-MGM Studios (now Disney’s Hollywood Studios). That movie took us through some of the greatest movies ever made, including Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, Alien, Mary Poppins, Singin’ in the Rain, Fantasia, and Tarzan.
However, The Great Movie Ride closed in 2017 to make way for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and well, some of us haven’t ever been the same since. If you’ve been mourning the loss of The Great Movie Ride, you can own part of the ride’s history — if you’ve got the cash. That’s because you can now buy an animatronic USED on the ride on eBay.
Does it look familiar? This animatronic was one of the mummy figures from the Indiana Jones Egyptian Temple scene in The Great Movie Ride. It even has a label on the base that says “Great Moments,” which was the original name of the attraction. It stands around 70″ tall (yep, it’s life-sized). The listing also says it’s in “fine park-used condition, with intentional distress to the mummy.”
However, if you want to get your hands on this spooky animatronic, you’ll need to be able to pick it up. Oh, and you’ll need to shell out $13,000. But, hey, the price of nostalgia is high, right? Plus just think of how this baby will TURN UP your Halloween decorations this year!
Meanwhile, we’ll just remember The Great Movie Ride fondly. Stay tuned to DFB for more.
