While closures around Disney World can be quite the bummer if you aren’t expecting to stumble upon them, they’re a pretty important part of operating a theme park and keeping it in tip-top shape.
Throughout the year, rides, pools, and even forms of transportation will temporarily close so that Disney can perform routine maintenance and clean up procedures to keep everything running smoothly and looking magical and brand new. An important closure is taking place starting TOMORROW, January 16th, and you need to be aware if you’re headed to Disney World this month!
Starting January 16th, 2024, the Disney World Skyliner will close for refurbishment. We learned of this closure back in October, but that was so long ago that we felt a reminder was important!
Don’t worry, though — this closure won’t be too lengthy. The Skyliner is set to re-open on January 27th. Well, completely re-open, that is. The areas between Pop Century/Art of Animation to the Caribbean Beach Resort and Caribbean Beach Resort to Hollywood Studios will be closed from January 16th through January 21st, 2024. Service between Disney’s Riviera Resort and EPCOT’s International Gateway will stay closed through January 27th, 2024, so the EPCOT line will be unavailable until then.
Don’t worry, though. Disney will provide free bus transportation to all these areas while the Skyliner is down. You won’t be trapped!
So… what happens during refurbs like these? Well, sometimes we’ll see new Skyliner wraps once it’s back open, but most of the time, there are only pretty boring but pretty important updates like maintaining the cables, gondolas, and sometimes touching up paint. Often, we can’t even tell the updates have taken place at all — which is a good sign, usually.
We’ll continue to keep you updated with more Disney news, so make sure to follow along for more so that you never miss a thing.
