Joyeux Noël, Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays to those that celebrate.
The holiday season is a wonderful time at the Disney Parks, as they’re full of festive decorations, delicious treats, ride overlays, and special events. The holiday fun isn’t limited to the United States, though — Disney Parks around the globe are in on the celebrations as well! In fact, Disneyland Paris is doing something extra special this holiday season!
Disneyland Paris has made a commitment towards environmental conservation this year and, in doing so, has chosen to use sustainable trees to decorate the park during the Christmas season. These sustainable trees will continue to grow each season thanks to a collaboration with a local nursery, the Pépinière du Val d’Yerres.
The Disneyland Paris teams responsible for the Christmas season discussed working with what they call “living” trees. Further, they wanted to incorporate both the entertainment and horticulture sectors of the resort to be involved. After years of planning, they eventually turned to Pépinière du Val d’Yerres (which is based in Seine et Marne) in an effort to create a specific process to allow the dream of having live Christmas trees in the park to become a reality.
Per Disney, the process is centered around “an anti-bun plant container, which allows the trees to continue growing without having to be cut down.” The sustainability efforts are very on-brand for Disney, and this process reminds us a lot of the efforts behind Living with the Land at EPCOT in Disney World.
Each of the 80 natural Christmas trees that were installed this year inside the Disneyland Paris theme park will continue to grow until the end of the season. Once the trees are removed, they will continue to grow and gain strength within the anti-bun plant containers and eventually return bigger and stronger next year.
Wow! We think this is awesome, and now, we’re dreaming of a Parisian Christmas. As always, we’ll continue to bring you all the latest developments at Disney Parks so be sure to stay tuned right here at DFB!
