Disney’s nighttime spectaculars are some of the best entertainment we might ever see.
The fireworks, lasers, and projections that we often see come together perfectly to tell beautiful stories that only Disney could tell. But have you ever wondered what goes into designing and creating one of these magnificent shows? Well, now you can get a behind-the-scenes look at how Disney put together their newest nighttime show– Luminous The Symphony of Us!
Luminous The Symphony of Us will debut tonight, December 5th, in EPCOT. The new show will use lasers, lighting effects, fountains, music, and (of course) fireworks to continue the Disney100 celebration. Disney shared that the show will “reflect the commonality in all of us.” It sounds perfect for World Showcase Lagoon.
And now, in a new YouTube video, Disney has shared some behind the scenes of how the production team was able to create this new pageant. And yes, they acknowledge the elephant…ah…barges…in the room (or rather, the lake).
Luckily, these new barges move! Unlike the barges in Harmonious, that everyone had mixed feelings about, these barges come out just for the show and go away after it’s over. This leaves the lake (and our view) barge free most of the day. The Cast Member in the video mentioned that it’s a “blank slate” before and after the show.
The production team also shows all the programming that goes into the effects. They create the show on the computer software and then test the show at night to make sure, for example, when the program tells the water fountains to go up that it actually goes up. They have also been able to create new colors of lights and lasers including a fancy rose gold effect that we can’t wait to see!
The team consists of lighting specialists, producers, production managers, pyrotechnics, and many more people who come together to make some amazing Disney magic. We can’t wait to see this new show when it premieres in EPCOT on December 5th! You can catch it nightly at 9:30PM.
