BREAKING: Disney Announces UPDATE on NEW ‘Tiana’ Show Coming to Disney+

We’ve got some BIG Disney+ news!

We love Tiana!

Back in 2020, it was announced that a Princess Tiana Musical Comedy series would be coming to the streaming service, but we haven’t heard anything since…until NOW. We just heard some exciting news — we’ve got an update on the new series!

We last heard an update on this series over a year ago, when we got some concept art, but haven’t heard anything since. However, Variety has now reported that the lead writer and director for the show has been chosen!

Joyce Sherri will be the lead writer and director for the Disney+ animated series Tiana.

This series will be a follow-up to the original 2009 The Princess and the Frog movie. Anika Noni Rose will reprise her role as Tiana for the show.

Sherri has written for the Netflix series Midnight Mass and has also written and directed short films such as Beauty, Forever, and The Family Romance. Other accomplishments include first place in the 2020 Slamdance screenplay competition (for her feature Sweet Sixteen) and a selection for the 2021 Sundance Institute Screenwriters Intensive.

Tiana will be produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, with Nathan Curtis as producer and Jennifer Lee and Stella Meghie executive producing.

Tiana is a long-form musical comedy series that follows Tiana and her friends on their New Orleans adventures. The show was originally slated to premiere in the Spring of 2022 but was pushed to a 2023 release date back in 2021. Now, Variety reports that the show is expected to launch in 2024.

This show will follow Tiana as she “sets off for a grand new adventure as the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia, but a calling to her New Orleans past isn’t far behind.”
