So, we talk a LOT about eating in Disney World. We ARE the Disney FOOD Blog, after all.
So yes, we’re going to talk about some of our favorite restaurants, as well as our favorite snacks. We’re also going to tell you about new foods in Disney World, as well as some of the best meals. However, did you know that there are some very special meals in Disney World that you CAN’T have at all?
That’s because these meals aren’t meant to be eaten by us humans at all, but by the many animals that inhabit Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and The Seas with Nemo and Friends at EPCOT. Because, hey, they gotta’ eat, too! All of these animals have their very own chefs preparing their meals.
Disney shared that these chefs plan meals for 5,000 animals per day, and if you’ve ever had a pet, you know that animals have very specific nutrition requirements, and, well, some can be picky eaters, too. The animal nutritionists at Disney World design meals for 300 different species!
Their job at the Animal Nutrition Center is to use restaurant-quality food (yes, these animals eat VERY well) to make sure each animal gets the “right amount of protein, fat, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients.” That means they spend EACH DAY preparing over 1,000 pounds of food!
The Animal Nutrition Center then delivers that food to Animal Kingdom, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and EPCOT. Whew! That sounds like a LOT of work!
Meanwhile, the animals also have a health team that checks up on each animal, giving them regular preventative exams, and the like, to make sure they’re happy and healthy. If you’re curious about how each animal is taken care of, you can learn a LOT more by watching The Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom on Disney+.
We’ll keep covering MORE Disney news (including keeping you updated on all those animals), so stay tuned to DFB for more!
