Recently, Disney announced that it would be closing the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser.
The hotel that isn’t REALLY a hotel, but instead an interactive Star Wars experience, is set to have its final voyage from September 28th-30th. After Disney made the announcement, new bookings were temporarily closed. However, booking opened back up on May 26th. Then, later that same day, reservations were no longer available.
Reservations for the Starcruiser’s final voyage were marked “Unavailable” before booking reopened to the general public — that may be because Disney allowed guests with reservations AFTER the closure date to reschedule. There were some bookings available early on May 26th, but later, Disney shared a message on the Galactic Starcruiser website stating that the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser is unavailable for new bookings.
However, the message did indicate that a limited number of rooms could become available for new bookings “from time to time.” Disney urges guests to continue checking the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser website for any new availability. Who knows, maybe there will be some cancelations!
When the news first broke, Disney released a statement about the Galactic Starcruiser’s closure:
“Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment. This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.”
Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, further explained why the experience is closing. “It’s essentially a spaceship that guests board, themed out to feel exactly like Star Wars. Our Imagineers did an incredible job pulling this asset together, and our guests gave it very high ratings.” He added, ” “It didn’t perform exactly like we wanted it to perform, so we decided that we’re going to sunset this in September.”
If bookings do open back up, note that it’s not expected that Disney will offer any discounts for the final voyages on the Galactic Starcruiser. A two-day voyage starts at $4,809 for two guests staying in a Standard Cabin.
We’ll continue to keep an eye on bookings for the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser and when more may become available, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
