When you’re craving a good steak in Disney World, there are a few places you can choose from.
Disney World offers amazing options for a great steak like Jiko, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Steakhouse 71, and the ever-popular Le Cellier.
Many of Disney’s steakhouses are categorized as “Signature Dining” locations. Restaurants in this category tend to provide an elevated dining experience, and with that comes an elevated price tag. To provide a “non-Disney” analogy, consider Applebee’s or Chili’s the equivalent to a Disney Table Service option, and Ruth’s Chris or Morton’s Steakhouse like Disney Signature Dining.
These restaurants are popular, not just with the vacation Disney guests, but also with Orlando and Florida locals for any sort of date night, special occasion, or even just a super fancy Tuesday. Because of this elevated dining experience, Disney has provided a dress code policy for these fancier restaurants.
This helps keep these elegant dining rooms feeling elegant. Because sometimes, your fancy date night might not feel so special when you’re surrounded by folks in flip-flops and tank tops — you can eat ANYWHERE to get that experience. And when you’re forking over $40+ per entree, part of what you’re paying for is to feel fancy while you eat fancy food.
The dress code for the Signature restaurants is akin to “business casual lite:” dress slacks (or dress shorts) with a collared shirt for men and jeans, skirts, or dress shorts with a blouse or sweater (or a dress) for women. You can’t wear swim attire, ball caps, or torn clothing.
Many of Disney’s Signature Dining restaurants are housed at the resort hotels or Disney Springs, but there are a few that reside in the parks: The Hollywood Brown Derby (in Hollywood Studios), Monsieur Paul (France Pavilion in EPCOT), Takumi-Tei (Japan Pavilion in EPCOT), Le Cellier (Canada Pavilion in EPCOT), Cinderella’s Royal Table (in Magic Kingdom). It’s one thing to get gussied up to dine in a Signature restaurant at a Disney Resort or even Disney Springs, but wearing fancy duds during your day in the park may not be what you envisioned when you planned your vacation. Does anyone really want to wear heels and slacks in EPCOT on a hot Orlando day?
So, yes, there is a dress code for Signature restaurants in the resorts and Disney Springs, but the dress code does not apply to the Signature dining locations in the theme parks. This means you could eat filet mignon at Le Cellier in EPCOT while wearing shorts, a t-shirt, and Mickey ears, but that outfit would not pass muster while eating filet at the Yachtsman Steakhouse at the Yacht Club just down the International Gateway and walking distance away.
And what CAN you wear to Le Cellier? Well, what you can wear in the Disney Parks. And yes (again!), Disney does have some parameters for what you can wear in the parks. According to the Disney Website:
Proper attire, including shoes and shirts, must be worn at all times. The parks are a casual, family-oriented environment. Ensuring that the parks are family-friendly is an important part of the Disney experience. In that spirit, we ask you to use your discretion and common sense.
Inappropriate Attire
Disney reserves the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that is considered inappropriate or attire that could detract from the experience of other Guests. Attire that is not appropriate for the parks—and which may result in refusal of admittance—includes but is not limited to:
- Costumes and costume masks, which may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older.
- Exceptions:
- Specific Halloween and Christmas events.
- Some outfits inspired by Star Wars. Learn more
- Clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics
- Excessively torn clothing
- Clothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment
- Clothing that touches or drags on the ground
- Clothing with multiple layers is subject to search upon entry
- Objectionable tattoos
