Y’all, it has been 84 years (cue the Titanic meme) but TRON Lightcycle / Run is officially (yes, for REAL this time) open in Magic Kingdom!
The ride has seen it all — delays, previews, and a soft opening, but now it’s open for “good” and anyone can ride it…if they time things right and obtain a Virtual Queue boarding pass and/or Individual Lightning Lnae, that is. Let’s break down what the opening day is like and the key info you need to know!
Before we get to the TRON news, make sure you download our FREE checklist that covers the entire Magic Kingdom park. It has all the info you need to make sure you don’t miss a thing. Just enter your email and we’ll send the checklist straight to your inbox.
Now on to the big news!
TRON IS HERE
Oh yeah, friends, TRON is open in Magic Kingdom and we were in the park for its opening day!
In case you didn’t already guess, crowds today were at an all-time high. Disney expected this, and in turn, increased the Genie+ price to $35 per person. This was the HIGHEST Genie+ price we’ve ever seen in Disney World since Genie+’s debut in 2021. Despite this, Genie+ still sold out before 10AM, the fastest it has ever sold out. The Individual Lightning Lanes for TRON also sold out FAST, and the Virtual Queue filled up just as quickly. So if you’re hoping to ride this coaster when you visit, you need to be ready right when the Virtual Queue opens at 7AM each morning!
There were definitely crowds today, but it actually felt pretty quiet in some areas. Most people were hanging out over by TRON, so Main Street felt pretty chill.
The TRON merchandise pop-up shop opened today in Magic Kingdom near Stitch’s Great Escape. A Cast Member previously told us that we would need to join a line via a Virtual Queue, but we actually got to walk right in and shop the TRON merchandise! This may change if things get busier and the store isn’t able to hold the crowds.
We also saw a new treat pop up at the Main Street Confectionery to celebrate the occasion! Say hello to the new TRON-themed pop made with crisped rice cereal, chocolate, and M&Ms. You can get one for $6.49.
Alright, now let’s get into some essential TRON info.
Virtual Queue
First, if you want to ride TRON, know that there is NO standby lane. You will either have to join the virtual queue or buy an Individual Lightning Lane for the ride. More on the Lightning Lane in a second, let’s tackle the virtual queue first.
There are 2 times at which you can sign up for the virtual queue:
- 7AM — you don’t need to be in Magic Kingdom to join but you DO need a valid ticket and Park Pass for Magic Kingdom
- 1PM — you have to be IN Magic Kingdom to sign up (and because the virtual queue spots become available before Park Hopping starts at 2PM, that means you essentially need a Park Pass for Magic Kingdom to score one of these)
Here is some key virtual queue information:
- To join, you’ll use the My Disney Experience app (make sure you have that fully set up way in advance)
- You can only enter the virtual queue ONCE per day
- There is an additional time to sign up for the virtual queue starting April 5th on select dates when Extended Evening Hours is available — that’ll only be accessible to those who qualify for Extended Evening Hours (staying at a Deluxe Resort, Deluxe Villa, or select other hotels)
- The virtual queue can fill up in SECONDS, so you’ll want to act quickly
- Disney has been pretty strict about late arrivals, so make sure that you’re on time when your boarding group is called. You’ll have one hour to get to TRON once your boarding group is called.

Individual Lightning Lane
Don’t want the stress of the virtual queue sign-ups or you want to potentially ride TRON twice in one day? Then you’ll want to buy an Individual Lightning Lane for the ride. This can be purchased through the My Disney Experience app starting at 7AM on the day of your visit if you’ll be staying at a Disney World hotel. All other people can start buying their Individual Lightning Lanes (if any are available) at park-open.
The price of the Individual Lightning Lane varies by date, but on the first day of TRON’s soft opening, it was priced at $20.
These Lightning Lanes have and may continue to sell out QUICKLY (we’re talking within minutes) so you’ll want to act as quickly as you can to secure one if that’s your plan to ride TRON.
