The COVID-19 pandemic impacted Disney parks around the world, but one park has just returned a policy back to “normal” for the first time in YEARS.
Hong Kong Disneyland has seen a number of changes over the past few years. Most recently, it has shared sneak peeks of its upcoming Frozen-themed land, shared a look at its new fireworks show, and more. But now the park’s mask policy has CHANGED.
According to the Hong Kong Disneyland website, masks are no longer mandatory in the park. Instead, the website now notes that masks are OPTIONAL for guests and Cast Members throughout the entire resort. Regular cleaning and sanitization continue to be done throughout the resort though, and you’ll still find hand sanitizer dispensers in certain spots.
The website also has a list of tips to maintain good personal hygiene.
This change comes as Hong Kong in general scraps mask mandates. The Wall Street Journal reports that this change has been made after almost 3 years of having a mask mandate in place. It was one of the longest-running pandemic restrictions in the entire world. The change is being made just as Hong Kong is trying to encourage guests to visit once again (they’re even giving away thousands of FREE flights) and as it works to regain its image as an “international financial center.”
The Chief Executive of the city, John Lee, announced: “The Covid epidemic in Hong Kong is under control with no sign of a big rebound.” As a result, masks will NOT be required whether you’re indoors, outdoors, or on public transit.
If you’ll be traveling internationally, it’s important to check the rules for the area you’ll be visiting. For example, in South Korea masks are still required when at hospitals, pharmacies, and on public transportation. In Japan, some rules will be changing on March 13th but it’ll still be “recommended” that people wear masks in high-risk situations (like on crowded trains).
