If you like margaritas and great cocktails, we bet you usually take a left when you hit World Showcase at EPCOT.
Why? Because La Cava del Tequila is RIGHT THERE in the Mexico Pavilion serving up some of the best cocktails at Disney World, including the occasional mule (it’s not ALWAYS about margaritas), the occasional boozy snowcone (no, REALLY!), and yes, margaritas to DIE FOR. But did you know this bar also now serves up a twist on a Pina Colada?
We were just checking out the menu at La Cava del Tequila today when we noticed two new drinks we hadn’t spotted before! The first is a Negroni Blanco, which is made with Montelobos ensamble mezcal, Cocchi Americano aperitivo, Luxardo bitter bianco, and cucumber bitters for $20.
For the sake of this review, though, we went with the Acapulco Colada. This drink is made with Mocambo aged rum, Gracias a Dios pina mezcal, Nixta corn liqueur, Kalani coconut liquor, and pina colada cream for $17.
So that’s what we ordered! The first thing we noticed is that this isn’t as sweet as a typical Pina Colada. The coconut liquor and the mezcal keeps it from being too sugary. Also, the two predominant flavors here are coconut and rum. We know some folks are a little scared of mezcal, but this one isn’t as smoky-flavored as most.
With that being said, we think this drink could use a little zest, like a squeeze of lime juice or something like that. The coconut is VERY heavy and could use something with more acidity. We also think with the drink being $17, it should at least have some kind of garnish or rim.
Overall, this drink doesn’t stray TOO far from classic pina colada flavors, so if you like pina coladas, we’d recommend!
We’ll continue to search for new drinks AND snacks at Disney World to review, so stay tuned to DFB!
