The global health crisis put a lot of industries on hold.

Perhaps one of the hardest-hit sectors was the travel industry — especially cruising. Cruises have been on hold for over a year now with little news of a definite return. We’d heard about Disney Cruise Line’s test cruise that will sail later this month, but now one cruise line has announced the first returned passenger cruises to sail out of Florida!
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Royal Caribbean has announced that cruises will return to sailing from Florida including Port Canaveral, Port Everglades, and Port Miami in July or August.

The line will test sail around the same time as Disney Cruise Line in late June with a few more tests following with their various ships over the next few months. After these test cruises, revenue cruises will return with Freedom of the Seas on July 2nd from Miami for a Fourth of July weekend trip to the line’s private Bahamas island Perfect Day at CocoCay with regular 3- and 4-night sailings thereafter.

In a statement, Royal Caribbean CEO Michael Bayley said, “This is it. Vacationers can finally plan to take their precious time off this summer and truly get away after what has been a challenging time for everyone. Thanks in large part to the successful rollout of vaccines, the world of adventure is beginning to open up, and we are all excited to start delivering great vacations to our guests, who have increasingly told us they are getting vaccinated.”

Earlier this year, Disney noted that passenger cruises could potentially return for Disney Cruise Line in the fall. It’s unclear if that timeline has moved at all at this time.
