The next few years are set to bring us a BUNCH of new attractions in Disney World.
EPCOT is no exception to this, especially since the EPCOT Transformation park overhaul is fully underway. One attraction that we’re SUPER excited about is the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind coaster — and now we’ve got an update on construction progress!
This morning, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a permit for “Low Voltage Show Control” at the building that’s housing the new Guardians ride (formerly the Energy Pavilion!).
The permit was filed with Elite AV Systems, a company that deals with commercial and industrial equipment. Show controls are likely being installed to help create the story and environment of the coaster with controls for lighting, sound, and more.
The permit does not have a specific expiration date so it automatically receives one that is one year from the filing date. This typically means that the work is expected to be completed sometime within that one year window.
As of now, Disney has maintained that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will open in time for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary on October 1st, but it is possible that the park closures caused a delay. We’ll have to wait for an official opening from Disney to find out!
Regardless, the coaster seems like it’s going to be a very cool new attraction. It’s set to be one of the longest indoor roller coasters ever built, include a reverse launch, and a new Omnicoaster format. Plus, we’re expecting a rockin’ soundtrack!
