We’re big fans of Disney ride vehicles. We know, we know, that sounds a little weird. But, YES, the vehicles are a BIG part of what makes a ride great!
Think about the trackless ride vehicles on Rise of the Resistance or Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, the iconic Doom Buggies on Haunted Mansion, and the VERY cool Omnicoaster vehicles coming to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Well, Disney has come up with a NEW vehicle system and we’re pretty excited about it.
Disney recently filed a patent application for “Techniques for Concealed Vehicle Reset.” This tech would allow ride vehicles to transform to a second configuration during the course of the ride and then set aside a hidden area for them to return to their first configuration.
That sounds kind of confusing, but what that might mean is that as your riding along, your ride vehicle takes you through a car crash scene. The “car” you’re in changes in appearance when it’s “hit” with different pieces out of place for the rest of the ride.
Once you disembark, the ride vehicle is moved to an out-of-sight area so that it can be reset to the original way it looked before taking on new passengers. And it doesn’t have to be a car either! This tech allows ANY sort of transformation to be reset at a hidden point so the possibilities are pretty endless!
This patent caught our eye since we’re pretty used to ride vehicles looking the same the whole time you’re on them. It would certainly add a layer of storytelling for the ride vehicles to change along with the actions and sequences in the ride’s story!
We’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for tech like this to be used in the Disney parks and we’ll be looking for more fun patents, as always. Stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney tech updates!
