Permits Filed for Work on SEVERAL Guest Room Buildings at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

As you might have heard, there’s been some pretty big news for Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort! This monorail loop hotel is getting a BIG refurbishment and won’t officially reopen until next summer!

Part of this refurbishment includes a rework of all of the guest rooms to include a Moana theme. We’re already excited for when the final product is revealed next summer and things are already underway. Now, Disney has filed a BUNCH of permits on the guest buildings at Polynesian and they might have to do with the refurb!

Seven permits were filed with the county yesterday, each one indicating work on a different Polynesian guest building. The description of the work is “General Construction” but the contractor that the work is filed with is a firm that specializes in resort renovations!

One interesting thing to note is that these are actually amendments to permits that were filed back in December of 2019. The permits were initially set to expire on November 30th and have now received a variety of expiration dates (when the work will be complete) in the first half of 2021, prior to the summer.

Polynesian Construction

The new expiration dates certainly line up with the expected completion for the refurbishment, but the Polynesian refurbishment was just announced in August (waaaaay after these original permits were filed in December). It’s possible that the early stages of the work began that far back, but it’s also possible these permits are unrelated to the Moana refurbishment.

Regardless, we’re excited that this resort is getting some TLC whether these permits indicate work on the guest rooms or not. Stay tuned for all of the latest updates on the Polynesian refurbishment!
