In the wake of Governor Ron DeSantis’ big announcement yesterday regarding the gradual reopening of parts of Florida starting May 4th, Universal Orlando Resort officials have just released new guidelines for its employees.
Although no reopening date has been cited, Universal Studios says it will require employees to have their temperatures checked before starting work.
News 6 WKMG reported that any worker with a temperature over 99.9 degrees will not be permitted entry. This health precaution will be applicable to all of Universal’s team members and business visitors (vendors, contractors, etc.) starting tomorrow.
Universal had previously mentioned that they would possibly implement temperature checks in a task force meeting. In that meeting, they also outlined other potential changes that may be put into place when the park reopens. You can read more about that here. Bob Iger has mentioned that temp checks are a possibility for Disney World as well.
The notification of Universal’s official decision was made by Bill Davis, President and COO of Universal Orlando Resort in a letter sent to all employees, including contractors and vendors. If any person is found to have a temperature of 99.9 degrees or higher they must wait at least 72 hours before returning.
The letter also stated, “Before traveling to property, you should assess yourself for any symptoms, including checking your temperature: we don’t want you to put yourself or others at risk.”
“Regardless of your temperature, if you are not feeling well or have any symptoms, including mild cold symptoms, you should not come to property! We encourage anyone in this situation to seek medical attention as they deem appropriate.” You can see the full letter here.
At this time, Universal Orlando’s website still says the resort will be closed until at least May 31st. We’ll continue to provide you with further updates as more information becomes available.
