On March 19th, California Governor Newsom issued a stay at home order for the people of his state.
But recently areas of California’s coastline have been flooded with large numbers of people, which could be prompting the Governor to close beaches and state parks.
According to CNN, in a memo sent out Wednesday to police chiefs, Governor Newsom plans to announce Thursday his plan to close California’s beaches and state parks.
An image below shows what Newport Beach looked like last Saturday, April 25th. Lifeguards reported most people were practicing some level of social distancing but with an estimated 80,000 visitors in attendance, Governor Newsom is eager to avoid any major setbacks in California’s progress towards fighting the virus.

In addition to keeping his stay at home order intact at this time, Governor Newsom says California will be mitigating the spread of the virus through contact tracing. It’s possible the state could be “weeks” away from moving to Stage Two which would lift some restrictions and permit “Lower Risk” places of work to reopen including retail, offices, and schools “with adaptions.”
