Update! Welp, we thought this might happen! ;-D Looks like the secret was out too early, and Disney has removed the 2021 mention from their description of the poster. Alas! Will they or won’t they? You know we’ll keep you updated on all the news as we hear and see it — don’t forget to join our newsletter for the latest info.
When details about a new Moana-inspired walkthrough attraction in Epcot emerged at D23 last year, we couldn’t wait to find our way over to the Wayfinder’s new exploration trail — Journey of Water!
But in light of recent events, our concerns began to deepen as to when the new walkthrough experience would see the light of day. You see, Disney has already postponed in-park construction that was underway and there could be potential budget cuts looming over new projects.
But today we received some confirmation (in the most unlikely of places!) that Journey of Water could be opening in Epcot in 2021!
shopDisney has just added this super limited-edition art print of the new experience to their website! The Journey of Water Poster looks just like the ones we saw at the Epcot Experience which opened last fall and shows guests what the Epcot transformation will look like when it’s all finished!
Designed by Stacey Aoyama, the posters are limited to an edition of 100 and cost $90 each. We’ve seen similar reto-style posters for sale at Epcot including the coming soon Space 220 Restaurant and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction, also scheduled to open in 2021!
But what really intrigued us about this new item was its DESCRIPTION! We’re guessing someone at Disney had to look this puppy over before publishing it on their website, meaning we’re thinking that Journey of Water is set for a 2021 opening!?
So there you have it — possibly the strangest way we could have found out that Disney is planning to open the Moana-themed Journey of Water walkthrough in 2021! Remember, with Disney’s current situation, this could always change. So we will keep our eyes on the situation and let you know if Disney shifts the opening timeline.
