was released at this year’s D23 fan event that it was easy to blink and miss something!

We gathered all the MAJOR announcements from throughout the 3-day convention here! There were lots of critical news items — like the new parade coming to Disneyland and updates on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland — but read on for the REALLY big stuff!

Star Wars Hotel Name and Info Revealed!

Holy Obi-Wan Kenobi, y’all! We got Star Wars news! Aside from revealing some very eyebrow-raising footage of The Rise of Skywalker, we got a NAME for the new resort from a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will allow guests to board the Halcyon ship for their overnight excursions.

This “resort” is less hotel, more spaceship in design and looks crazy cool with SO MUCH interaction for guests. We wonder where the pool is going to go in a Starcruiser…hmmmmm.

Epcot Transformation

One of the biggest announcements came in the reveal of the redesign for much of Epcot. This multi-year endeavor will completely reshape Future World as we know it. Now, the front half of the park will be themed into 3 new neighborhoods each centered around a different ideology of the park: Celebration, Nature, and Discovery.

World Celebration will see the most redesign, adding in an ALL NEW multi-tiered Festival Center that will have amazing views of the new nighttime show that was announced for Epcot, HarmonioUS.

Spaceship Earth will be getting a redesign (only on the inside — the structure itself isn’t changing!) to match the updates to the park as well. The central space of the new World will feature new interactive fountains, landscaping, and a new statue of Walt Disney.

World Discovery will see the addition of a PLAY! Pavilion in the old Wonders of Life pavilion along with the new Space 220 restaurant and the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

World Nature

will add an interactive Moana exhibit called Journey of Water along with a new film, Awesome Planet.

World Showcase’s France Pavilion will welcome the additions of La Crêperie de Paris and the previously announced Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Attraction in Summer of 2020.

Speaking of new attractions…

Mary Poppins is Getting Her Own Ride in the UK Pavilion!

This is the most supercalifragilisticexpialidociously unexpected news from D23! It looks like last year’s Mary Poppins Returns sparked enough of a renewed interest in the beloved characters to warrant an all-new attraction! Mary Poppins will be getting her own ride in the UK Pavilion!

Soon you’ll be able to “step in time” down the Banks family’s good ol’ Cherry Tree Lane to go on a new adventure with the practically-perfect Queen, herself! Learn more about the new attraction HERE!

Ol’ Bert himself, Dick Van Dyke, made a surprise appearance to announce the new attraction! We can’t wait to see the ship atop Admiral Boom’s house next door! Speaking of ships…

Disney Cruise Line Announces the Name of Their New Ship and a NEW Private Island

Disney Cruise Line

will welcome the addition of the Disney Wish in 2022. This will be the first of 3 new ships Disney plans to add on in the coming years.

According to Disney, the ship will be “inspired by the beauty of an enchanted fairytale.” This ship will feature Rapunzel and Pascal helping paint the bow of the ship!

Castaway Cay, the current Disney Cruise Line private island is such a huge hit with cruisers that with all these new ships in the works, Disney is quickly outgrowing having only one private island!

They announced plans for a new SECOND private island named Lighthouse Point, part of the island of Eleuthera. This island is located in the Bahamas not too far from Castaway Cay. This second private island will open in late 2022 or 2023.

Avengers Campus

We already knew that Disneyland and Disneyland Paris would be getting an Avengers themed land, but now we have a TON more details including the new name — Avengers Campus.

In Disneyland, a new PYM Test Kitchen restaurant, Spiderman themed campus and ride, and more will be assembling starting when phase 1 opens in 2020. Phase 2 will add on the Avengers Headquarters and a new E-ticket attraction!

Disney Genie

My Disney Experience

is about to get a new best friend! Disney announced a new trip planning app called Disney Genie at D23.

While very little was revealed about the new app, Disney claims it will “make planning easier and more fun by providing customized itineraries geared to your interests, right at your fingertips.”

Disney also promises “You’ll be able to tell Disney Genie what you’d like to experience, and it will quickly evaluate millions of options to present you with an optimal day. And best of all, it’s flexible! If you change your mind for any reason, Disney Genie will re-optimize your day.”

These seem like lofty claims we’re VERY curious to see in action. We’re also eager to see if this will be a paid, separate service or free to all guests. There’s already SO MUCH that goes into planning a Disney World trip that allowing a computer algorithm guess the likes and dislikes for your whole family seems like a difficult task to master. We’ll keep you posted as more news is released.
