The District has been a big topic in the news lately after the new Board of Supervisors discovered an agreement made between Disney and the old Board that gave Disney a significant amount of power in the District for a long time. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has threatened actions against Disney to combat this, and now he’s outlined his plan of attack.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis can’t seem to stop talking about Disney. After appointing a new Board of Supervisors to the Reedy Creek Improvement District (now called the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District), the governor and new Board have threatened legal action.

Before the DeSantis-appointed supervisors took over, Disney and the prior Board entered into an agreement that essentially puts the power back into the white-gloved hands of the Mouse. Disney CEO Bob Iger has responded to the moves, calling them “anti-business” and “anti-Florida,” and now, he’s sharing more.

DeSantis-Appointed Reedy Creek Board Reveals Next Steps in Battle Against Disney

The battle between Disney and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis looks like it could be reaching a new point.

Disney World’s Reedy Creek Improvement District (now called the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District) already has a NEW Board of Supervisors appointed by DeSantis, is subject to new rules on reporting and other regulations, and has had certain powers removed from it. But things got really interesting when an agreement between Disney and the old Board came to light which new Board members claim strips them of their power. Now, it seems DeSantis’ Board could be attempting to strike back.

Following the revelations that the Reedy Creek Improvement District Board targeted by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has transferred most of its powers to Disney, the governor has vowed to investigate the action, and said, “We’re not going to let [the Reedy Creek board move] happen.”

A new Board of Supervisors appointed by Florida Governor DeSantis has met regarding the future of Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District (now called the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District) and they’ve recently discovered an agreement that was signed by Disney and the old Board that grants Disney quite a lot of power over certain decisions within the District moving forward. The new Board has threatened legal action and the Florida Governor has ordered an investigation into Disney’s agreements, all while Disney has defended the agreement. And now Disney CEO Bob Iger has commented on the situation.

Though Florida Governor Ron DeSantis may have ended the “corporate kingdom” by changing parts of Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District (now called the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District) and appointing all new board members, the Board might NOT have the power it expected thanks to a special agreement Disney entered into with the previous Board. The new Board of the modified District has been appointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and has already discussed potential changes that could come to the District. Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro, previously noted “If that new board understands the value that gets created here and how it positively impacts the Central Florida community, I think they will be aligned with our vision and will carry on the Reedy Creek soul that’s been in place.” But it seems the new Board may be more focused on fighting Disney and some key agreements made recently.
