Review: The King Whoopie Pie at Everything Pop (R.I.P. King Cupcake)
Goodbye, King Cupcake… Hello, King Whoopie Pie!
Yep, you read that correctly. You’d better believe that when we started hearing rumors that our beloved King Cupcake was no longer available at one of our favorite counter service spots, Everything Pop, we buzzed over to Disney’s Pop Century Resort ASAP to scope out the situation.
Much as it breaks my heart to say it… the rumors are true!
It was love at first bite for me with the King Cupcake. What first struck me as an odd flavor combo of peanut butter, banana, and candied bacon (a twist on Elvis Presley’s favorite sandwich ingredients, hence the name) quickly became one of my go-to favorites upon trying it. In fact, it was one of the first items I placed on my Disney Food Bucket List.
Everything Pop has not left us entirely without a tribute to Elvis, though. Allow me to introduce you to the King Cupcake’s official replacement (as it stands for now, anyway): the King Whoopie Pie.
Now, you may recall that we were JUST at Everything Pop, checking out the new selection of Mini Tarts. Well, on my recon mission to find out what happen to the King Cupcake, I saw that they had also added the same Whoopie Pies that recently debuted at the Art of Animation’s Landscape of Flavors. What’s New Around Walt Disney World: February 9, 2016
February is the month we celebrate love!
And since we LOVE few things more than checking out all the goings-on with FOOD all over Disney World, what say we take a whirlwind tour around the parks (and a few resorts) and see What’s New?! [Read more…]
Review: Mini Dessert Tarts at Pop Century’s Everything Pop Food Court
Greetings from Pop Culture Past… ‘cuz we’re back at Everything Pop Food Court at Pop Century Resort!
We JUST visited Landscape of Flavors in the Art of Animation Resort to try their new Miniature Whoopie Pies. I mention that because those unfamiliar with this area of Disney World may not know that it’s just a quick stroll over the bridge across Hourglass Lake to Pop Century. This is a huge boon for guests at either resort who have easy access to arguably two of the best food courts in Disney World. Hoping to try more exotic flavors? Hop on over to the Landscape. Craving comfort food served up with a side of quirkiness? Take a stroll to Everything Pop!
Now typically, if I’m here for dessert, it’s because I’m craving the King Cupcake, which has earned a place of honor on my Disney Food Bucket List!
But on this visit, fresh from Art of Animation, I couldn’t help but notice that Everything Pop is hopping on the Mini Train, too. In this case, it’s an assortment of Mini Dessert Tarts up for grabs, so let’s “pop” in for bite!
Atmosphere
Everything POP Food Court certainly lives up to its name…
It hosts a bright and fun atmosphere with lots of color and creativity. [Read more…]
#OnTheList: The King Cupcake at Disney World’s Pop Century Resort

This post is part of the DFB #OnTheList series, where we feature eats you’ve GOT to have while you’re at Disney! Let us know what’s on YOUR Disney Food Bucket List @DisneyFoodBlog #OnTheList!
Are you ready for one huge hunka-hunka cupcake? Because THAT’S what you’ll get with the King Cupcake, our latest #OnTheList item found at Disney’s Pop Century Resort!
Elvis Presley has no shortage of diehard fans to this day, but it appears he was quite the fanboy himself… particularly of a good ol’ peanut butter and banana sandwich. But it didn’t stop there — he was also known to enjoy this classic combo with bacon. [Read more…]
News: Disney World Refillable Mug Price Change Test Currently Underway
UPDATE: In the days since this post first published, many of our readers have reported that the new price of the Refillable Mugs has rolled out to several more Disney Resorts in addition to the original locations named in this post.
Heads up, all! A few select Disney World Resorts have rolled out an updated pricing structure for the Rapid Fill Mugs — refillable mugs that provide guests the option to purchase one mug and reuse it for fountain and other drink station beverages throughout their vacation for a pre-designated amount of time.
The price for a Rapid Fill Mug has been $17.99 for length of stay, with lower pricing options available for 1, 2, and 3 day visits since the Rapid Fill drink program debuted in August 2013. And it remains in effect at several Disney resorts currently.
BUT…at Pop Century, the All Star Resorts, and Port Orleans – Riverside, the price is currently $16.49 plus tax for length of stay.
However, the 1, 2, and 3 day options are not currently available to guests, so essentially [Read more…]
Photo Tour: Vintage Food Fun at Disney’s Pop Century Resort
When you see the words “Photo Tour” in the title of any DFB post, it often means we’ve got something NEW around Disney World or Disneyland to share. But not this time… As a matter of fact, some of the things we’re going to show you today are over well over 50 years old. We’re taking a tour of some of the vintage food-related items in the Pop Century Resort Shadow Boxes!
If you haven’t had a chance to visit Disney’s Pop Century Resort, the check-in area is lined with shadow boxes filled with blasts from the past, in keeping with this fun and colorful Value resort’s theme dedicated to pop culture from the 50s through the 90s.
The shadow boxes include items reflecting music, television, fads, trends, gizmos and gadgets from the various decades represented, but we’re focusing on those related to food, and hope you have fun traveling through the decades with us!
Starting in the 50s, you’ve gotta love one of the first shadowboxes, dedicated to Walt Disney, Disneyland, and the first Mouseketeers.
The vintage food find here is the tin school bus lunch box, complete with Goofy driving around some of our oldest Disney pals.
It was also the era of soda fountains and diners when “teenage” life as we know it hit the scene.
Take a very close look at the menu, and you’ll spot one of Walt Disney’s favorite dishes, Chili and Beans, going for the high price of 15 cents (though I think I’d spring for “Bob’s Special Steak” for a quarter).
Even the songs in the tabletop jukebox reveal a few food gems, with the [Read more…]
Cast Member Gingerbread Displays at Art of Animation and Pop Century Resorts
Yes, the Christmas holiday has come and gone… So you might think it must be time to halt all the gingerbread chat for the year. However, just a few days after Christmas I stumbled upon two gingerbread displays that I’d never seen before.
Sure, we’ve taken you on tours of the Grand Floridian’s famous Gingerbread House, and this year’s new Frozen-inspired Gingerbread Display at the Contemporary Resort. But I must say, these smaller displays have a charm all their own. I’m talking about the Gingerbread Houses created by Cast Members at the Art of Animation and Pop Century Resorts!
Much like the Cast Member Pumpkin Carving contests happening at resorts all over Disney World for Halloween, various teams joined together to create their own gingerbread masterpieces. Guests placed their votes to determine a winner.
Over at Pop Century, the Food and Beverage Team took home the prize for this colorful Gingerbread Minnie Mouse House.
I love the Krispy Treat Chimney!
The other entries were pretty great, too 🙂 . From this Gingerbread Pixie Hollow by the Merchandise Team…
… to a more traditional display by [Read more…]
Review: Gravy Fries at Everything Pop Food Court at Disney’s Pop Century Resort
May I make a Disney food confession?
I can’t – CAN’T – enter the Everything Pop Food Court at Disney’s Pop Century Resort…
…and not indulge in a serving of Gravy Fries.
If you’ve visited Everything Pop, you may not have even seen Gravy Fries on the menu – they just get a small mention on the side of the screen at the sandwich station, and it rotates out occasionally to spotlight other items.
Basically, everything you need to know is in the name: Gravy. And. Fries.
The fries are standard issue Disney fries. The beef gravy covering them is… well, I think it’s awesome – you can spot the bits of pepper to give it just a little zest, and it’s consistently thick and rich.
You actually need [Read more…]
