Disney has been the subject of several lawsuits lately, and we’ve got a big update on one of them.
Magic Kingdom
Disney has been sued over its response to the “Don’t Say Gay” law in Florida (the Parental Rights in Education law), its Genie/Genie+ system, and Park Passes. In terms of Park Passes, lawsuits have come from both Disney World Annual Passholders and Magic Key pass holders.
Disney has been the subject of a few lawsuits lately, and now another has hit the Company.

We’ve already seen a lawsuit filed regarding Magic Key Passes and the Park Pass system in California, Annual Passes and the Park Pass system in Florida, and the Genie/Genie+ system. Now, another lawsuit has hit the Mouse, and it comes from an investor.
Disney is no stranger to lawsuits, but things don’t always work out so well for the Mouse.

We’ve seen Disney get involved in lawsuits over COVID-19 allegations related to Disney Cruise Line, a property tax appraisal, and, most recently the Genie+ system. Many times Disney’s lawyers work diligently to get a positive outcome for the Company, as you might expect. But sometimes things don’t quite go how Disney would have hoped. That’s right folks, sometimes Disney has been sued and LOST.
The Walt Disney Company is no stranger to lawsuits, and it seems they’ll now have to face another one.
Magic Kingdom
Disney is currently involved in 2 lawsuits (one related to Disneyland and another related to Disney World) about its Park Pass system. Lawsuits have also been brought against Disney in relation to the Rise of the Resistance ride design and even movie releases. But now a huge Disney system is the subject of a lawsuit — this time, it’s all about Genie+.
Late in 2021, Disney got hit with a lawsuit from Magic Key Pass holders (Disneyland’s updated version of Annual Passes) over the Park Pass reservation system and its interaction with Magic Key.

That lawsuit alleged that Disney deceived its fanbase by “artificially limiting theme park capacity and blocking passholders with ‘no blockout’ annual passes from making reservations.” Earlier in 2022, we shared an update on the case and the claims that had been allowed to go forward, along with a look at how the lawsuit likely impacted the Magic Key passes made available for renewal. And now it looks like Disney might be feeling a little bit of deja vu.
In December of last year, a $5 million lawsuit was brought against the Disney Parks and Resorts on behalf of Magic Key Holders (the Annual passholders in Disneyland). The lawsuit alleged that “Disneyland deceived its most loyal fan base by artificially limiting theme park capacity and blocking passholders with ‘no blockout’ annual passes from making reservations.”

Disney responded to the suit about a week later, filing for the case’s removal and stating that the company was “clear about the terms of the Magic Key product” and would “vigorously defend [their] position as the case proceeds.” Now, several months later, we finally have a new update about this case! Disneyland Resort launched its new Magic Key Annual Passholder program in August of this year. This replaced the old program with new passes that include different perks and benefits.

Last week, we told you about a lawsuit filed against Disney regarding Disneyland’s Magic Key Annual Passholder program and the current park pass reservation system. Now, Disney has responded to the lawsuit.
Disney Cruise Line has not set sail since the beginning of March in 2020, prior to the shutdowns from the global pandemic.

Disney cruises were cancelled in mid-March last year and have continued to be cancelled. Now, some passengers who sailed on a Disney Cruise before the closures are suing Disney for allegedly contracting COVID-19 while on board.
Walt Disney World takes up thousands upon thousands of acres in Florida.

And it should come as no surprise that Disney has to pay a LOT of taxes on said acreage.
