Today’s Takeaways From Florida’s Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force Meetings

Four meetings of the various subcommittees for Florida’s Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force took place today, with more scheduled throughout the rest of the week. As Orange County is one of two counties in which Walt Disney World resides (the other being Osceola County), we’ve been staying tuned to the conversations surrounding the reopening of businesses in Orange County.

Committee members discuss a diverse group of issues, concerns, and potential guidelines for a wide range of business operations. Here, we’re sharing a few items from today’s meetings, particularly with regards to the area’s theme parks — including Walt Disney World — which are currently closed to promote safety amidst the global health situation. If you followed along with some of yesterday’s conversations by Florida’s Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force, you may recall that discussions addressed the reopening of various businesses around the county, including the area’s theme parks in light of the current closures due to the global situation. As Walt Disney World Resort remains closed until further notice in light of the current global health situation, discussions are already in progress with regards to reopening the economy for the state of Florida. We have been following the discussions of the Re-Open Florida Task Force, which is focusing on businesses all over the state.

Governor Speaks Regarding Peak of Health Crisis for Central Florida

Business leaders from around Florida are in the process of meeting to determine the safest steps to reopen the state’s economy. While considering the current global health situation, they’re working with recently presented federal guidelines. These leaders have been coming together as the Re-Open Florida Task Force (of which Walt Disney World President Josh D’Amaro is an Executive Member) appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis.

NEWS! Disney Cruise Line Cancels Further Sailings Into Summer 2020

In order to promote safety during the current global situation (and in response to an extension of the “No Sail Order” issued for cruise ships by the CDC), Disney Cruise Line is cancelling further sailings into this summer.

Departures through May 17, 2020 have previously been cancelled for the fleet, with departures cancelled for the Disney Magic through June 7th and sailings embarking or debarking in Vancouver — which specifically affects the Disney Wonder — through the end of June. [Read more…]
