We’re sharing our top tips to help take your stay at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge from great to INCREDIBLE!
Did you know you can experience the rustic beauty of the Pacific Northwest, just a few minutes away from Magic Kingdom? Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is a gorgeous Deluxe Resort in Disney World, inspired by the classic lodges of America’s National Parks. Between the hotel’s theming and its proximity to Magic Kingdom, it’s one of our top choices when we want a relaxing hotel that’s still super close to the action of the parks! There’s already a lot to love about this hotel, and we’ve got some expert tips to help make your stay at Wilderness Lodge the best time EVER!
Here are six tips to take your stay at Wilderness Lodge to next-level awesome!
Take Full Advantage of the Great Dining Options
We’re coming out of the gate hot, because one of our absolute FAVORITE things about Wilderness Lodge is the incredible lineup of restaurants found at the hotel! First up, we’ve got to give a shoutout to the character dining spot Story Book Dining at Artist Point with Snow White, which serves up an impressive prix-fixe meal, with visits from Snow White, Dopey, and Grumpy throughout the dinner.
This restaurant has SO MANY highlights, from the characters to the gorgeous ambiance to the delicious menu.
In fact (spoiler alert!), we even ranked Storybook Dining as our top table service restaurant in ALL the Disney World hotels in a recent ranking video on our YouTube channel!
But the great dining doesn’t stop there! Whispering Canyon Cafe is another table service spot popular for its down-home skillet-style meals and the playful antics of the servers. Think 50’s Prime Time Cafe, in terms of the server interactions here, just without the family member angle at Prime Time!
Geyser Point Bar & Grill offers both a table service lounge and quick service dining in a super relaxing, outdoor space that really lets you soak up the atmosphere that Wilderness Lodge is known for.
Territory Lounge is another favorite of ours, thanks to the cozy vibes and our personal menu highlight, the cheese fondue!
When we stay at Wilderness Lodge, we always look forward to taking full advantage of all the great dining right in our hotel! Just make sure to snag an Advance Dining Reservation for any of the table service restaurants you plan to visit since they can fill up fast — ESPECIALLY Storybook Dining at Artist Point!
Use Boat Transportation to Magic Kingdom
Even though Wilderness Lodge is considered a Magic Kingdom area hotel, it isn’t on the Monorail line like most of the other Magic Kingdom hotels are. But that doesn’t mean you’ve got to stick to the “standard” bus transportation to get to the park. There’s a boat dock right outside the hotel that offers direct boat transportation to Magic Kingdom!
The boats offer a scenic and relaxing ride across Seven Seas Lagoon, and it drops guests off right outside the main entrance to Magic Kingdom. Three cheers for avoiding the Transportation and Ticket Center! The ride itself usually takes about 10-15 minutes, but remember to factor in some potential time waiting for a boat to arrive if you’re on a tight timeline for a reservation in Magic Kingdom!
Taking a chill boat ride to Magic Kingdom (or back to your hotel at the end of a long day) is a welcome change of pace from the constant stimulation in the park, and we take full advantage of it whenever we stay at Wilderness Lodge!
Enjoy the Unique Theming
We’ve already touched on it a bit, but one of the huge selling points of Wilderness Lodge for us is the beautiful, outdoorsy theming. And there are plenty of fun elements around the hotel that really lean in to the National Parks design!
You’ll find plenty of water features throughout the property, like waterfalls and streams, both outdoors AND indoors!
One of the most impressive water features is Fire Rock Geyser, located near the Wilderness Lodge pool. Inspired by Yellowstone National Park’s Old Faithful, the geyser erupts at the top of each hour throughout the day, sending water 120 feet into the air!
When you’re ready to cozy up, there are several places around the resort to relax by a roaring fireplace, including the large gathering fireplace in the lobby.
The gorgeous, rustic theming of the hotel is so tranquil, it’s hard to believe all the activity of Magic Kingdom is just across the lagoon! If having a calm hotel to retreat to is at the top of your priority list, you’ll love all of the soothing elements around Wilderness Lodge.
Watch the Fireworks & Electrical Water Pageant from the Beach
What better way to cap off a relaxing hotel day than by enjoying TWO nighttime spectaculars right from your resort??
The Electrical Water Pageant is a classic, floating nighttime parade that sails across Seven Seas Lagoon. The illuminated floats feature whimsical sea creatures, accompanied by music that is piped in around the viewing areas. Be sure to check the nightly showtimes during your visit so you know when to post up in your viewing spot!
Plus, you can see the Magic Kingdom fireworks from across Seven Seas Lagoon! Both the water pageant and the fireworks are visible from the Wilderness Lodge beach. You can also spot them from some other areas around the hotel, like Geyser Point and from select hotel rooms, but the views aren’t guaranteed and might be obstructed, so if you want the best shot at a clear view, head to the beach!
Plan an Outdoor Activity at the Nearby Fort Wilderness
Speaking of great ways to spend a hotel day, the nearby Fort Wilderness Resort is home to TONS of unique activities that you might be shocked are even offered in Disney World! Guests can’t currently walk directly from Wilderness Lodge to Fort Wilderness due to construction, but the boat transportation can take you to the neighboring resort.
A few of the fun things you can try in Fort Wilderness include horseback riding, pony rides, archery, fishing, and canoe rentals, among others!
Each of these Fort Wilderness activities is a paid experience, but they can totally be worth it if your travel party wants to enjoy a day of excitement outdoors!
Remember to check the list of activities ahead of your visit and make reservations in advance if they’re offered, as they can fill up, especially around peak travel times!
Visit During the Holidays for Extra Ambiance
All of the Disney World hotels get decked out for the holidays, but we still have to give an extra shout-out to Wilderness Lodge’s take on holiday decor. Wilderness Lodge gets gorgeous seasonal decorations, starting with the MASSIVE Christmas tree in the hotel lobby.
We could spend hours checking out all of the ornaments that perfectly fit with the hotel’s theme!
The rest of the lobby and seating areas are also decorated with garland, wreaths, and festive lights.
There are so many details to explore!
In previous years, Wilderness Lodge has also featured a massive gingerbread cabin in the lobby during the holiday season, although the full-size version hasn’t returned to the hotel since 2019. The gingerbread cabin definitely isn’t a guarantee, given its extended hiatus, so don’t count on this one at Christmas. But, of course, if Disney does announce its return for a future holiday season, we’ll update you right away!
The Christmas decorations around Wilderness Lodge truly take the cozy vibes of the hotel to the MAX!

I am a DVC owner of Wilderness and love it.
I would also recommend taking the guided tour of Wilderness Lodge that is offered. I can’t remember if it is offered every day, or only certain days of the week, but when I went on it, the guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. Things like the meanings/symbolism behind the totem poles, the fireplace chimney, the wood patterns in the floor, the configurations of the buildings, and much more, are all discussed. Very enjoyable and informative for everyone!
