No matter what time of year you go to Disney World, you can probably expect to wait in some sort of line. From buying your favorite snack to riding the most popular attractions in the parks, lines are part of the fun.
Disney has a few different ways of managing lines, like Lightning Lanes, standby lines, and virtual queues. Well, Hollywood Studios has brought back virtual queues — but only for today.
Happy Star Wars Day! May 4th is a major day at Hollywood Studios, where guests come to celebrate one of the most popular franchises ever. With a special event, there will be special merchandise, too.
To manage shopping lines, Disney added a “May the 4th Merchandise Event” to the My Disney Experience app. The queue opened at 7 AM, and once you joined, you received a group number for when you can return.
For today’s event, guests are returning to Vacation Fun in Hollywood Studios, but there’s also an option to visit Once Upon a Toy in Disney Springs for guests who don’t have park reservations or tickets.
Virtual queues used to be a big deal at Disney World, since you needed them to get on some of the most popular rides! Some rides only had it for an opening, and others had it for over a year or so after it first opened.
The virtual queue tells a group when to return to the attraction, but more likely than not, you’ll still be waiting in a fairly significant line, which is frustrating since you technically already waited in line. If you’re using the system today, be aware that there will likely still be a line.
Ever since, we’re always on the lookout for new rides that open to see if they’ll temporarily bring back the virtual queue. When Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopened in Magic Kingdom, neither ride used the virtual queue system.
