Disney World can be expensive, so nothing is worse than regretting an impulse purchase you made.

Magic Kingdom
Our DFB team members are in the parks every day, and with that experience comes a lot of lessons learned. Our team is sharing some stories of the times they made an impulse purchase they later found themselves regretting, so learn from our mistakes — don’t do this on your trip to Magic Kingdom!
The Dreaded Park Poncho
First up on the list may surprise you, but we’ve had MANY members of our team regret buying a Poncho from the parks, both when it did end up raining and when it didn’t. Here’s the thing: Disney World ponchos aren’t known for their great quality. Will they get the job done? Sure, in a way, but they’re also very likely to rip and tear, and then you just spent all this money on something you can’t reuse. Not to mention that many people feel suffocated in them on hot, humid days in the parks (which, let’s be honest, is a large part of the year). Instead, we recommend buying a poncho online or at a store back home before your trip!

Our favorite ponchos to take to the parks are the FROGG TOGG ponchos. They have a little bag that will carry your wet poncho, and they are super good quality. On top of that, they are way cheaper than the ones in the parks!
Balloons That Beat You Up
Second, we have something that many people love, but when you think about it, they’re just not practical — BALLOONS! Balloons can be found in 3 out of 4 of the Disney World parks, plus Disney Springs, but you’ll never find them in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, as they can be a danger to the animals’ health.

Main Street USA
These are adorable, especially with all their different designs, but if you’re trying to carry them around all day, you soon realize how annoying they are. If you don’t have anything to tie it to, like a stroller, you’re going to have nowhere to put it on rides, and that’s just a disaster. If you do have a stroller and tie it to it, your balloon will, in fact, hit you or someone else while you’re walking (obviously, I’m salty from my own experience). If you’re going to grab one, we recommend buying it at the end of the day and then keeping it in your hotel room for the duration of your trip. If you do buy a balloon, just know that you can ask for it to be deflated at the Disney Store at MCO so you can take it home with you! Then you can get it inflated again once you are home.

The $4 Bottled Water
This goes for all Disney World parks, but buying a bottle of water is something we’ve only done a handful of times and regret it no matter what. Staying hydrated is extremely important, but there are also FREE cups of water you can get at each quick service location, and that’s what we recommend using to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day.

Bottled Beverages
Bring a reusable water bottle from home, and boom, you’re golden! Some of this water can taste a bit yucky, so we like to use the water bottle refill stations located around the parks. We have found that the water from those locations tends to taste a bit better.

A Churro
Listen, I know that eating a churro on the Hub grass and staring at Cinderella’s Castle sounds magical, but you take one bite of that thing, and you’ll understand this regret. For some reason, the Disney World churros are not nearly as good as the ones in Disneyland, so don’t make the mistake of grabbing this snack thinking it’s iconic.

Churro Snack Cart
There are SO MANY other snack choices that we recommend over this (the Cinnamon Roll from Gaston’s Tavern, we’re looking at you!). You can grab our DFB Magic Kingdom Snacks Guide for a full list of our favorite snacks here.
Trust us, don’t make these mistakes on your Magic Kingdom day and save your money instead. For more Disney World tips and news, be sure to follow DFB!
