Afternoon tea has been a part of the Grand Floridian for decades, and we’re SO excited to experience it once again after the Tea Room reopens. Ahead of its March 19th opening, Disney shared some behind-the-scenes details and a new look at the transformed space.
The new tea room experience will be a proper British afternoon tea experience featuring premium Twinings tea selections paired with delightful scones, small bites, and exquisite pastries, all themed to Alice in Wonderland.

We got to chat with a few of the brilliant minds behind the new Tea Room:
- Alessandra Rogers, Chef de Cuisine-Pastry
- Michelle Schutte, Chef
- Amber Trafford, Proprietor; Tea Professional
- Suzanne Szak, Senior Interior Designer, Walt Disney Imagineering
While the Grand Floridian has both Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland theming throughout, they shared that it was easy to pick the latter as the theme for the Tea Room, on account of the Mad Tea Party, of course.

Part of the extensive lobby refresh at the Grand Floridian, the renewed space has been redesigned to complement the resort’s updated aesthetic while preserving the gracious atmosphere longtime Disney guests remember. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the resort’s gardens, and the new decor incorporates subtle nods to the Main Street U.S.A. elegance and refined Victorian sensibilities that make the Grand Floridian one of Walt Disney World’s most iconic resort hotels.

Suzanne Szak, Senior Interior Designer with Walt Disney Imagineering, said that they were greatly inspired by Victorian conservatories, which is reflected in the expansive, arched glass windows and views of the garden. Expect to see repeating floral patterns throughout the space in the carpet, murals, and the stained glass.

There are also birds seen around the space, primarily wrens and sparrows, which are both native to Florida.
