With all the different dining options at Disney World, spots that often get thrown under the radar are Disney World Resort hotel restaurants. More specifically, the places that you can eat at beside the pool.
We recently stopped by Muddy Rivers at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside to see if this is a good option for guests staying at the resort and enjoying the resort’s pool, or guests who are passing through the resort. Is it worth a stop on your next trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth? Find out here!
Atmosphere
Muddy Rivers is a standard Disney pool bar located at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside. It’s a nice spot for those who are hanging out at the resort’s main pool, or guests who are just walking around the resort and are looking to grab a snack or a drink. It has a decent outdoor seating area, plus all the seating around the pool.
But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?!
Menu
The place has different salad and snack options, as well as specialty drinks that include New Orleans-inspired sips like Nola Cola, Gata-Melon Juice, and the All That Jazz frozen cocktail. Or you could go with a classic Hurricane.
And now, onto the main event — the food!
Eats
First, we grabbed the Hot Cajun Boiled Peanuts for $5.99. The thing you need to know about boiled peanuts is that they are very soft on the outside, and you have to kind of pinch them to get them to open to get to the peanuts inside. The peanuts inside are also soft, but they have a lot of flavor.
They’re not necessarily hot, but they are seasoned. Note that you get a LOT of peanuts for the price.
Then, we grabbed the Roasted Turkey and Pimento Cheese Wrap for $11.99. It’s served cold and fresh, which we appreciated. You also get a lot of turkey with crunchy, fresh lettuce. The pimento cheese also added a nice cheesiness to the overall flavor that complements the turkey really well.
This is more than just a snack, though. It’s a solid lunch that can fill you up.
So if you need something more substantial than a snack, this is a solid option.
Drinks
To drink, we picked up the Bull Frog Brew for $6.29. This is made with Minute Maid Premium Lemonade, Green Apple, and Kiwi. This tasted like Powerade mixed with lemonade, and we mean that in the best way possible. It’s very refreshing, and it’s a great drink to have if you’re sitting by the pool and want a sweet drink. It’s giving us Frozen Mystic Portal Punch at Woody’s Lunch Box in Toy Story Land vibes.
We also grabbed the classic Hurricane for $21.50. This is made with Bayou Silver Rum, Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum, Orange, Pineapple, and Lime Juices with Grenadine and a float of Myers’s Original Dark Rum served in a Souvenir Hurricane Glass. We found ourselves wishing this drink had more flavor. The rum is super strong, so you’ll want to stir it up before that first sip to get something more balanced.
It is refreshing and a great poolside drink, but again, it’s just kinda lacking in flavor. With that being said, it does have a slight tanginess to it, thanks to the orange, but that’s about it. The souvenir cup is nice, though, and we love a drink with a little umbrella.
Nosh or Not
This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…
- You’re enjoying a pool day at the hotel. If you plan on staking a spot out at Ol’ Man Island Pool, you don’t have to go too far for food and drinks because Muddy Rivers is right there.
- You just need a few close food options to maximize pool time. Again, if you don’t plan on leaving the pool, you’ve got a selection of tasty pool bites, including charcuterie, wraps, and salads. PLUS, there’s a full bar.
- You don’t want to have any plans for the day. This is as laid back with dining as you can get. No reservations needed, and you don’t even need to use Mobile Order.
You should skip this Disney World spot if…
- You need more options. The food menu is small here, and it doesn’t even include fare for picky eaters like chicken strips and burgers (although you can find those at the nearby food court).
- It’s hot. If it’s hot and muggy, and you want to eat somewhere indoors with the a/c blasting, this shouldn’t be your choice. Although it does have some shaded seating, it’s still outdoors.
- You’re not staying at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort. It doesn’t really make much sense to go out of your way for this pool bar if you’re not staying at the Port Orleans Resort.
Overall
Muddy Rivers is a pool bar, so you can’t expect a lot from it. The menu is limited, although the food that is available is fresh and tasty. It’s also a great spot to grab something to sip on while lounging beside the pool, but you shouldn’t make a special trip to Port Orleans Resort just to visit this bar.
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!
