An iconic animator of some of Disney’s most classic films, Jane Baer, has sadly passed away in her sleep on February 16th. She passed away in her home in Van Nuys, California, according to her obituary. She was 91 years old.

Jane Baer was a pioneering animator whose career lasted over six decades at Disney and beyond.
Baer’s career was filled with working on iconic and generational Disney films. She was known for her contributions to several cinematic milestones, including her work as an assistant animator on Sleeping Beauty, as well as a leadership role in the animation for Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Jane Baer also worked alongside legendary Disney figures like the “Nine Old Men,” a group of Walt Disney Productions’ core animators established in the 1920’s. After that, she co-founded the independent studio Baer Animation.

Baer also worked on other Disney classics, including The Rescuers, Pete’s Dragon, The Fox and the Hound, Mickey’s Christmas Carol, The Black Cauldron, and The Great Mouse Detective.

Baer was also a founding member of Women in Animation, a non-profit organization that offers panels, workshops, and mixers for women animators, according to Variety. They actually have scholarships and mentoring programs for young and emerging female animators. Jane Baer has left a long-lasting legacy and a huge impact on the industry.

Her family requested donations be made in her honor to the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center in Los Angeles. She will be remembered for the amazing life she lived! Our thoughts are with Baer’s friends, family, and loved ones at this time.
