When it comes to Walt Disney World, many longtime Disney fans have their own small traditions they’ve developed over the years. Whether it’s a specific order they move around the parks, designated spots where they always take vacation photos, a particular meal they always eat, etc.
Personally, I’ve developed several over the 30+ years I’ve been visiting Disney parks, including a very sweet — in more ways than one — way I like to end my days at EPCOT.
As I’m sure everyone reading this is aware, each night at EPCOT ends with a fireworks spectacular on the World Showcase Lagoon. Over the park’s 40+ year existence, there have been several presentations, including Carnival de Lumiere, Laserphonic Fantasy, various versions of IllumiNations (including the long-running Reflections of Earth), Harmonious, EPCOT Forever, and the current presentation, Luminous: The Symphony of Us.
While many view the show from the shores around the World Showcase Lagoon — which I would still recommend for the first time one sees the show — I like to do something a bit different during most of my visits. I’ll head over to the Norway Pavilion and pop into the Kringla Bakeri og Cafe.
There, I’ll pick up one of the iconic School Bread Rolls. These well-known EPCOT treats — a sweet roll filled with custard and dipped in coconut — had long been a favorite of many EPCOT guests, including myself and many members of our DFB team.
From there, I’ll pop out the back door to the small seating area that looks out onto the walkway that circles World Showcase and the lagoon beyond it. From there, I’ll watch the show from a comfortable seat while enjoying my sweet treat instead of being crammed into a massive crowd.
Now, I do have to note that, between being set back from the walkway, looking over people’s heads, and the presence of the roof that covers the seating area, there are some portions of the show that are tough to see. So once again, I would NOT recommend this for anyone’s first or second viewing of Luminous. However, if you’ve seen the show several times, it can be a fun and more relaxing way to enjoy the vibe and atmosphere of the fireworks… and enjoy some School Bread to boot!
This is just one of my little personal Disney World traditions. Stay tuned to DFB for more personal takes from our team!

We had two traditions at EPCOT for the fireworks viewing, one replacing the other and now the replacement will need replacing….
We would go to Italy and at one of the kiosks would get some chocolates. They came in a small cup – about 6-8 of them – and they were delicious! We’d stake out a railing on the small bridge, enjoy decadent chocolates, and bask in the thunderous and twinkling show. Then…. They stopped having the chocolates at the kiosk!! Can you imagine?
So the next trip we opted over to Kringla for pastries and discovered a toasted turkey, havarti, and apple sandwich! A bench seat on the lagoon, and we were in happy. Not quite the Magic like before, but still so memorable. But alas, the tasty sandwich, too, is long gone.
Last time it was a cheese plate and adult slushies at France, and while quite nice, not quite chocolates in Italy nice.
