A limited-time promotion is currently available through Southwest Airlines, allowing travelers to unlock one of the airline’s most valuable benefits with minimal qualifying travel. The offer won’t last much longer, and knowing about it now could change how you plan future trips.

If you’ve ever dreamed of flying with a friend or loved one for virtually free, now might be your last chance to take advantage of one of the best travel perks out there. Southwest Airlines is once again offering a limited-time Companion Pass promotion, but the window to qualify is closing soon, and you’ll want to act fast if you don’t want to miss out!

The Southwest Companion Pass is one of the most coveted travel rewards in the airline world and for good reason. Once you earn it, you can designate one person to fly with you on any Southwest flight you book for just the cost of taxes and fees, whether you use cash or Rapid Rewards points for your own ticket. That’s essentially a buy-one-get-one-free deal on flights.

Normally, earning a Companion Pass isn’t easy. You must either accumulate a whopping 135,000 qualifying Rapid Rewards points in a calendar year or take 100 qualifying one-way flights which is a tall order for most travelers. But for a short time, Southwest has brought back a special promotion that dramatically lowers the barrier.

Here’s how the offer works: if you register for the promotion and then purchase and complete just one round-trip flight (or two one-way flights) by the promotional deadline, you’ll earn a Companion Pass valid for the fall travel season — with flying dates typically spanning several weeks later in the year. This means you could book one qualifying trip now and enjoy nearly free travel with a companion later on.

The catch? You must register and book soon! The deadline is coming up fast on February 5th — and the travel for that qualifying trip must be completed by March 31st to count toward earning the pass. Once you’ve earned it, you’ll be able to designate a companion to fly with you on any eligible Southwest flight during the promotional period falling between August 10th and October 7th, subject to seat availability.
