Let’s face it: 2026 is a BIG year for Disney World, so it was obvious some other things would have to change. Now, we’re not talking about all the BIG construction changes happening in Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, although those will, no doubt, affect your 2026 Disney World trip.
No, we’re talking about changes with some of Disney World’s rules, things that you need to be aware of if you’re visiting Disney World this year. These rule changes are probably necessary to keep things running as smoothly as possible and to make sure you have the best trip you possibly can have, amid all the chaos and construction. So let’s talk about them.
Disney World Hotel Guest Water Park Perk
One big change right off the bat for 2026 involves Disney World changing its rules for the water park perk for Disney World hotel guests. Previously, Disney World hotel guests could visit a water park FOR FREE on their arrival day throughout the year. That rule, though, has changed, and this perk is now only available in the summer of 2026 (May 26th-September 8th).
Why the big change? Well, it might just be that many guests aren’t interested in visiting a water park in the cooler months (and it’s been downright COLD in Central Florida recently). However, it might have been nice if another perk were offered to guests visiting in the spring, fall, and winter months.
Characters Added to Early Entry
Disney has also changed something with character appearances. During Early Theme Park Entry this summer, you’ll get to meet up with some of your favorite characters early, during that 30 minutes of Early Entry. Disney has not yet revealed which character meet and greets will be available during that time, but it will be a great way to beat the long lines for characters later in the day.
This could make up for the fact that so many things will be closed in three of the four parks, as well as make up for all the construction that will be in full swing come summer.
Entertainment changes in Magic Kingdom
Disney also had to change some entertainment offerings in Magic Kingdom due to the painting of Cinderella Castle (yes, she’s getting a makeover!). The Let The Magic Begin welcome show, the show that happens just before Magic Kingdom opens each day, is temporarily suspended, although you’ll still hear the fanfare and music from the show. You also won’t be able to see Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire, another castle stage show, in the mornings, although there will be afternoon performances.
Finally, Magic Kingdom’s nighttime fireworks show, Happily Ever After, will also have some changes but will still run most nights. You can check the My Disney Experience app for all shows to see the most up-to-date times.
Changes at Disney’s Fort Wilderness
Disney’s Fort Wilderness and Campgrounds have changed their rules about how many guests each campsite can have. The maximum occupancy was previously 10 guests, but this year, that occupancy has been changed to eight guests. This new rule applies to all campsites (but not the cabins).
We’re not sure why Disney made that change, but it might have to do with concerns of campsites being a little overcrowded with 10 guests (although that’s just a guess).
Lightning Lane Tiers could change in 2026
In Magic Kingdom, the rules about Lightning Lane Multi Pass ride tiers could change due to big ride upgrades. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin are both getting some pretty big updates, which means that when they reopen, they’ll be popular rides.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was already a Tier 1 ride, so we don’t expect that to change, but Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin could get bumped up to Tier 1, too, which could affect how you book those Lightning Lanes in advance, if the updated version of that ride is a priority (and if you’re wondering how that works, click here for details).
