Walt Disney World offers a litany of dining options across the property’s theme parks, resort hotels, and the Disney Springs shopping district. While the wide variety of options is welcome, it can sometimes be overwhelming for first-time visitors.
For example, if one wanted to have a “fancy” meal in a relatively upscale setting at Walt Disney World without breaking the bank at one of the resort’s (comparatively) priciest restaurants? Well, luckily, that’s where we come in!
Ale & Compass
Located at the Yacht Club Resort, this hidden gem is a great value. Ale & Compass focuses on New England comfort food, offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a cozy, Cape Cod-meets-gastropub environment.
Breakfast entrees run from about $16 to $21 each, OR you can do the Continental Enhancement options, where you can choose an entree PLUS get additional Continental offerings off the buffet, plus your non-alcoholic beverage is ALSO included in that price point. The continental option costs $28 for adults (just a few dollars more than the à la carte entree option)!
Lunch and dinner may not offer up a continental enhancement option like breakfast does, but you can still get salads, flatbreads, and main plates for $13-$25 during lunch, while plates during dinner get a little more pricey, but still don’t tend to break the $40 threshold. (Just to give you a point of reference, if you walk inside EPCOT and order an entree from the Regal Eagle Smokehouse QUICK SERVICE, prices are gonna be almost the SAME as Ale and Compass’ lunch options, ranging between $13-$19.)
Steakhouse 71
Steakhouse 71 — named for the year Walt Disney World opened — is located at the Contemporary Resort. While the idea of a steak dinner at Disney World may send dollar signs spinning through your mind, Steakhouse 71 is (again, comparatively) budget-friendly, offering up steakhouse cuts around dinner time that don’t break the $50 threshold.
But don’t think that these “cheaper” steaks are also “cheaper” quality. The cuts we’ve gotten here in the past tend to be moist, juicy, and VERY flavorful. Even Steakhouse 71’s prime rib (a meat that can be rather chewy, depending on where you order it) has been so buttery and tender for us — and we’d gladly order it again.
Just to show you a quick price comparison — the 12 oz Roasted Prime Rib at Steakhouse 71 is $39, while the 14 oz Roasted Prime Rib at Yachtsman Steakhouse is $60. (Yes, you get more prime rib for the price you pay at Yachtsman’s — but, considering those are the only prime rib sizes available, you don’t really have the option to pay for less if you’re looking for a cheaper price point.)
Then there’s the BEST part about ordering a steak here: the SAUCE FLIGHT. Many specialty steakhouse sauces from the other steakhouses onsite will automatically charge you for each of your steak sauce accompaniments (that go beyond the typical A1). Meanwhile, the first sauce you receive at Steakhouse 71 will be on the house, and all your other sauces after that will cost extra; however, you can get a WHOLE Steakhouse 71 sauce flight — with EVERY SINGLE Steakhouse 71 sauce available — for only $6.
STK Orlando (For Happy Hour)
Located in Disney Springs, STK brings a modern twist to the traditional steakhouse — including elements like “sleek ambient lighting, a DJ in the main dining room, an indoor fire pit lounge, and a stunning rooftop terrace — combined with a menu that offers steaks, sandwiches, chicken, and fish.
However, the key time for budget-conscious visits is during Happy Hour. Offered at the following times:
- Monday through Friday – 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM
- Saturday and Sunday – 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM
- Sunday through Thursday- 10:00pm – Close (Available In The Bar, Lounge, & Patio Only)
Happy Hour at STK features specialty cocktails, select wines, and food for $3, $6, and $9.
$3 Happy Hour food options include Oyster on The Half Shell, Tater Tots, and Crab & Corn Fritters, $6 options include Lil’ Brg & Truffle Fries, Wagyu Meatballs, Short Rib Quesadilla, Pastrami Salmon Cones, and Mushroom Arancini, and $9 options include Japanese A5 Wagyu Taco, Jalapeño Pickled Shrimp Cocktail, Beef Tartare, Tuna Tartare Taco, Popcorn Chicken, Crispy Calamari, STK & Frites, and the STK Cheeseburger.
$6 beverage options include Modelo Especial or Modelo Negra, while $9 options include Happy Hour Cocktails and Chimay Bottle.
Summer House on the Lake (For Martini Hour)
Located at Disney Springs, Summer House offers an environment reminiscent of a beach house, complete with “charming coastal ambiance” as well as outdoor patios.
From 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Monday-Friday, Summer House on the Lake offers a Martini Hour promotion. There are three specialty martinis — the Classic, an Espresso Martini, and a Finn Collins — each available for $10.
Beyond martinis, there’s also a great deal on Red, White, and Rosé wine (around $5 a glass), as well as a rotating beer discount (which is $4 per glass)! You think the drink deals are good? Just WAIT until I tell ya about the Martini Hour FOOD deals!
The Bottomless Truffle Fries, for instance, are $10 – but they’re BOTTOMLESS (meaning you can fill up on them again and again without having to pay another $10 each time you need a refill). And the Lobby Cut Tavern Style Pizza here is $12 during happy hour! $12, folks!
Morimoto Asia
A final Disney Springs stop, Morimoto Asia offers a HUGE menu for lunch and dinner.
Now, the truth is that many of those options are pricey, but many others are relatively affordable. For example, you’ve got items like:
- Sushi Rolls (that range from $12-$19 per roll)
- Small plates and dim sum (that cost $10-$18 per item)
- Morimoto Spare Ribs (3 count) for $18 (And you can get an even CHEAPER version of that from the Morimoto Asia Street Food window outside of the restaurant – for $15)
- And noodles and rice bowls (for $20-$36)
But hold on… that’s just the BEGINNING: On the weekends, Morimoto Asia has a specialty weekend brunch option with MORE small plates and dim sum options and fairly reasonable price points. You can find these options on Saturdays and Sundays, starting at noon. AND if you’re using the Disney Dining Plan, dinner at Morimoto Asia is USUALLY a 2 table service credit affair… but during lunch, it drops down to a 1 table service cost – meaning you COULD stretch your DDP dollar MORE at Morimoto, just by dining here EARLIER on in the day.
