Disney California Adventure’s Lunar New Year Festival is back with a fresh lineup of limited-time food.
Disney California Adventure has once again rolled out a full lineup of Lunar New Year Festival dishes, and we tasted our way through them ALL! Here’s our complete roundup of what we tried, what surprised us, and what we’d absolutely order again.
Disney California Adventure’s Lunar New Year Festival is one of the park’s most colorful and culturally rich seasonal celebrations, honoring traditions inspired by Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese cultures. The festival runs from January 23rd to February 22nd and features a mix of limited-time food booths, themed entertainment, character meet-and-greets, and festive décor throughout the park. It’s a fan-favorite time to visit, thanks to the blend of vibrant atmosphere and exclusive menu items you can only find during the festival window.
Food is the real star of the show here, with marketplaces offering savory dishes, sweet treats, and specialty beverages inspired by Lunar New Year flavors and comfort foods. Better yet, you can opt to pick up a Sip and Savor Pass to sample multiple items at a discounted rate during the festival, making it easier (and more fun) to try a variety of dishes in one visit. Between the rotating menus, live performances, and appearances by characters like Mulan, Mushu, and Mickey in festive outfits, the Lunar New Year Festival feels like a full sensory celebration, and the perfect excuse to snack your way around Disney.
BOARDWALK PIZZA & PASTA
Next up we tried out the Korean Pork Belly Pizza for $9.49. It’s made with roasted soy-glazed pork belly with kimchi cucumber, mozzarella, yellow corn, sesame seeds, and kimchi marinara served as a slice or a whole pie (for an additional charge). We loved the mix of sweet, savory, and cheesy flavors. We did expect some heat from the kimchi marinara and kimchi cucumbers, but we didn’t get much flavor from those. The pork belly, which you get a lot of, was tender, and the soy glaze gave it a nice sweetness. The corn added more sweetness and gave off a perfect cheesy corn combo vibe.
We couldn’t pass up an opportunity to grab something sweet, so we also picked up the Pandan Cheesecake. This new dessert is made of Pandan-flavored cheesecake, brown butter graham crust, coconut whipped topping, and strawberry jam, and will cost you $7.79. This is a lovely, light, and refreshing snack. The main flavor comes from the pandan (which has a vanilla-like flavor) and the coconut. The brown sugar graham cracker crust adds a nice cinnamon and sugar flavor to the whole.
SCHMOOZIES!
From Schmoozies! we locked-in on the Hotteok-Inspired Mickey-shaped Waffles made of red batter waffles with brown sugar and cinnamon custard, yellow whipped topping, and sprinkles. These are a new offering this year and will cost you $11.29. The Schmoozies waffles are always a big hit with us, and this one is no different. The waffle is a regular Mickey waffle that’s been dyed red, while you’ve got the yellow whipped cream (which we didn’t even feel was necessary and stained our hands yellow).
The star of this dish is the brown sugar cinnamon custard. It has a consistency almost like cake batter, and the spices almost make us think of the holidays. It goes SO well with the waffle batter Disney uses, so the flavors just meld into one beautifully delicious treat.
PARADISE GARDEN GRILL
The new Lemongrass Pork Skewers were on our list to try next! It’s made of grilled lemongrass-marinated pork belly skewers served with fried garlic rice, pickled carrots and daikon radish, and a side salad for $18.49. The pork is fatty, rich, and tender, and it just melts in the mouth. Just one of these babies also makes for a very filling snack. We didn’t get much flavor from the lemongrass, though.
Then we set our sights on trying the new Vietnamese Coffee Roulade. It’s a coffee sponge, Vietnamese coffee mousse, coffee cookie crumble, and sweetened condensed milk whipped cream you can snag for $7.29. Honestly, this was just a pretty average coffee cake. The whipped cream added a nice texture and vanilla flavor, while the cake tasted like a 50% chocolate and 50% coffee, so you got a nice balance of flavors. It’s good, but not something we’d go out of our way to get again.
To drink, we also picked up the Strawberry-Lychee Cocktail made of bourbon, strawberry purée, lychee syrup, and lime juice, garnished with a skewered lime gummy. This one will cost you $17.25. This is a very refreshing drink that’s light on the bourbon flavor, making it very drinkable. The main flavor is strawberry, and it tastes fresh and natural. The lychee adds a floral note that doesn’t stand out too much.
PYM TEST KITCHEN
It was time to get our savory snack on with the new Spicy Pork Belly Grilled Cheese! These are $15.49 and are made with pork belly marinated in Korean spices with white American cheese, spicy aïoli, pickled onions, sourdough bread, and green onion crust served with potato bites. The pork belly is shredded, so you’re not getting that traditional pork belly texture. However, we have to warn you, this is VERY spicy with a lot of flavors going on. There’s a little heat coming from the pork belly, but the spicy aioli is what’s really bringing the heat.
The texture of the bread is good, and we’re happy to report that it doesn’t get soggy with all that sauce inside the sandwich. If you like spicy stuff and grilled cheese, this is your new favorite meal. It also comes with a tasty pickled onion cucumber salad that has some nice crunch and tanginess.
CHURROS AT HOLLYWOOD LAND
Then it was time to try the new Feng Li Su Churro for $7.50! It’s made of a churro rolled in shortbread sugar, topped with pineapple jelly and cherry-flavored popping pearls. Feng Li Su is a type of Taiwanese pineapple cake, so this churro is giving off summer cake vibes. The shortbread sugar is very grainy, but it makes sense for this snack. However, we wish it had more sugar and less shortbread. The pineapple jelly and popping cherry pearls are a refreshing addition that adds a lot of great flavor.
AUNT CASS CAFE
Over in San Fransokyo Square is where we turned to try out the new Year of the Horse Bread! This one will cost you $14.49 to pick up and is made of horse-shaped Boudin sourdough bread and is a plant-based offering for this year’s festival. This is the same sourdough bread you can pick up here in other shapes, but if you haven’t had Boudin sourdough, it’s a MUST.
We also grabbed the Strawberry Green Tea Bread Pudding for $8.49 here. It’s made of strawberry and green tea-layered bread pudding with green tea crème anglaise and whipped topping. Now this one’s only available with a Sip and Savor Pass through February 22nd, but without it, it’ll be around through March 5th and is new to this year’s offerings. The main flavors that come through are the strawberry and the green tea crème anglaise, and those two flavors pair to make a fresh, sweet, and floral-flavored treat. The bread pudding here is always served warm, so it’s wonderfully gooey. We were honestly surprised at how good a green tea dessert could be, but the tea only offers a mild flavor.
We picked up the new Almond Cold Brew for $7.29 to wash it all down. It’s made of almond cold brew with orange cold foam and is also available through March 5th. Here’s the thing…you can’t taste the almond flavor at all, and the drink is overwhelmed by the orange flavor in the cold foam (which is almost half the drink!). The cold foam has a nice creamy taste, and then you get the mild and bitter coffee flavor at the end of each sip.
STUDIO CATERING CO.
Time to turn our attention to the Tteokbokki from Studio Catering Co. It’ll cost you $8.29 to try this new festival item made of rice cakes with gochujang sauce topped with cheese, sesame seeds, and green onions. The sauce itself is great. It’s spicy and full of flavor. However, the rice cakes are flavorless, doughy, and rubbery, which just didn’t work for us. However, we were told that the texture is traditionally al dente and chewy, which is exactly what it was, so although it didn’t work for us, others may like it.
OUTDOOR VENDING CARTS
You can grab a Mickey-Shaped Hot Dog Bun at the outdoor vending carts. For $9, you’ll pick up a classic milk bread with hot dogs, hoisin glaze, parmesan, green onion, and sesame seeds. This is a returning snack, and y’all, we liked it more than we remembered when we first had it. The milk bread has a light and sweet vanilla flavor, then the hoisin sauce adds some sweetness, plus a salty and savory flavor. The hot dog pieces made it meaty and savory. However, we really didn’t get any of the parmesan flavor.
SMOKEJUMPERS GRILL
We were super excited to try these new Bulgogi Fries here for $8.99! These beauties are fries with marinated bulgogi beef, kimchi cucumber, mozzarella cheese, and gochujang aïoli topped with sesame seeds and green onions. These blew our minds. The flavors work so well together. The beef is nice and tender. The gochujang aioli adds just enough heat, but isn’t too spicy. The veggies are crispy. Adding cheese to it all? Perfection. This is also a filling snack.
COZY CONE MOTEL 5 – POPCONE
You’ll find the Crispy Chicken Bao here for $9.29. It’s a dish made of fried chicken coated in sweet chile sauce with cucumbers, carrots, and sesame seeds served in a soft bao bun and another new item to this year’s festival lineup. This is pretty small snack, so it’s not very filling, but that didn’t stop us from loving it. It’s a nice mix of refreshing vegetables combined with a sweet and spicy chicken. The veggies were vibrant and fresh, while the chickken was crisply. The sauce does have a bit of a kick, but it’s more sweet than spicy. The bao bun is sweet and fluffy.
