There’s a reason this Disney World hotel’s breakfast is always booked. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere, energy, and sheer variety of food make it clear why so many people go out of their way (and wake up early) to score a reservation here.
We recently stopped by Boma — Flavors of Africa for breakfast at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort to see what was cookin’, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. Is it worth a stop on your next trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth? Find out here!
Atmosphere
Stepping into Boma — Flavors of Africa for breakfast feels like walking into a vibrant celebration — one that’s rich in texture, color, and the kind of infectious energy that wakes you up just as effectively as that first cup of coffee. The dining room opens up with high ceilings, warm earth tones, and decor inspired by the diverse regions of Africa, creating an inviting atmosphere that sets the tone for the rest of your day.
Rich wood accents, patterned fabrics, and beautifully crafted tribal art make Boma feel less like a conventional buffet and more like a lively cultural experience — a place where your morning meal becomes part of your Disney vacation story.
Unlike some breakfast locations that can feel rushed or purely functional, Boma strikes a balance between casual comfort and spirited immersion. Even in the early morning light, the space feels energized, mostly due to the chatter of fellow guests, the clink of breakfast dishes, and the aroma of freshly made breakfast breads, which gives the room a sense of communal warmth.
Large windows let in soft natural light, offering glimpses of the resort’s lush landscaping and, on a good day, the distant savanna beyond. It’s a reminder that you’re not just eating breakfast — you’re beginning your day in a resort known for its distinctive global flavor. If you get here early enough, you can see the sun rising from those windows, and it’s breathtaking.
Despite its size, the restaurant never feels chaotic. The layout is thoughtfully arranged so that even during peak morning hours, there are cozy nooks and seating areas that make the experience feel intimate instead of overwhelming. Families, couples, and solo travelers alike all seem to settle into their meals with ease, chatting about plans for the parks or simply savoring a slower start. There’s a rhythm to Boma’s breakfast service (relaxed but purposeful) that pairs perfectly with the adventurous spirit of Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Whether you’re here for the food, the ambiance, or a bit of both, Boma’s breakfast atmosphere hits all the right notes. It’s bright where it needs to be, richly textured without being overdone, and consistently filled with the kind of buzz that makes you glad you booked the reservation.
But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?!
Menu
Let’s talk about the breakfast menu at Boma, because this isn’t your typical hotel buffet — it’s a full-on wake-up call with flavor and variety that’ll keep you fueled for long park days. You walk in and immediately notice there’s something for every appetite: from classic breakfast staples to African-inspired twists that are surprisingly approachable — and honestly, often delicious. Adult pricing will run you $39 per adult, while children ages 3-9 can dine here for $23 per child.

On the classic side, you’ll find everything you’d expect from a hearty breakfast buffet: made-to-order scrambled eggs, breakfast meats like bacon and sausage, and stacks of crispy breakfast potatoes. There’s fresh fruit, cereals, and yogurts for something quick and familiar. But Boma doesn’t stop there.

The real fun begins with the African-inspired offerings sprinkled throughout the spread. Think rich breakfast stews, spiced grains, slightly sweet cardamom-infused dishes, and unique takes on staples that give you something to talk about between bites. One minute you’re loading up on scrambled eggs, the next you’re dipping into tamarind-flavored options or sampling savory dishes you never knew you needed at brunch. That blend of familiar and unexpected is what makes Boma’s breakfast stand out.

And yes — bakery items are a highlight. There’s usually a variety of pastries and bread, from basic rolls to spiced delights that pair shockingly well with butter or jam. Add in a robust coffee station and fresh juices, and you’re set.
But our favorite part? You can absolutely build a classic Disney breakfast plate here and mix in something new. Whether you only touch the familiar stuff or dive headfirst into the African-inspired dishes, the menu feels generous, and it keeps you full long after you leave the table.
And now, onto the main event — the food!
Eats
We did what you do at any buffet and filled up a plate and dug in. The bacon is crispy, juicy, flexible, and chewy in parts. It was cooked perfectly, so it was nice and brittle. It also isn’t super fatty, which we appreciate.
The eggs are also really good with just the right amount of seasoning. The Simba waffle tastes like the Mickey waffle, but it’s fun and perfect for breakfast here. You don’t get syrup at the buffet, though. The servers bring you a little boat of it instead. It’s less messy that way! The Tomato Halves were juicy and flavorful.
We also grabbed a little parfait with yogurt, berries, and granola. There was also a full strawberry on top. The flavors really blended well together. And if you don’t like granola, you can get one without it.
We also picked up a mixed fruit salad. It was unique in that it had some African spices and seeds in it, along with strawberries, blueberries, and fruit juices. This is surprisingly good with lots of great texture and crunch. The fruity flavors are perfect for the first meal of the day. And those flavors worked well with the nuttiness of the seeds and spices.
Let’s talk pastries. There are plenty to choose from, including a Classic Cinnamon Roll. This is about the same one you can get at other buffets, but it’s a nice breakfast pastry, and we’ll pick it up every time. There was also something like a Sticky Bun…this kinda’ reminded us of a cross between the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake at Liberty Tree Tavern and a cinnamon bun, and we mean that in the best way possible. It has a caramelized texture with some praline pecans, and all of those flavors worked great together.
Then there’s the Bread Pudding with vanilla cream sauce on top. It’s a delicious bread pudding, and again, great for breakfast. There’s even some fruit or something in there, too. SO good.
The breakfast potatoes were well-cooked and well-seasoned with onions and diced peppers added to brighten them up.
We also had some of the hard-boiled eggs, but these were different because they had African spices peppered over the top, which really gave them a flavor we really liked.
Other buffet options include fruits, cheeses, some African-inspired dishes, carving stations, Mickey waffles, biscuits and gravy, pork sausage links, all kinds of eggs, pancakes, and all kinds of pastries. There’s even a toaster if you want to toast some bread or a bagel, plus a huge selection of jellies, jams, and sauces. So there are a lot of great flavors and options.
Drinks
So, as you may know, you get unlimited POG Juice (passion fruit, orange, and guava juice) during breakfast, and that stuff is so delightfully sweet, tropical, and wonderful.
But that’s not all we had to drink at Boma. Because we also ordered a drink, the Zebra Dome Cold Brew, and we think you’re going to love it. It’s made with Joffrey’s Coffee Cold Brew Coffee, Amarula Cream Liqueur, Mozart Chocolate Liqueur, Whipped Cream, and garnished with a Zebra Dome for $18.50. If you love zebra domes, this is the coffee cocktail for you. You already know what the zebra dome tastes like with that lovely mousse inside. The coffee is cold brew, which tends to be less bitter than regular brewed coffee, but for some, it may still be an acquired taste.
The coffee also doesn’t have a lot of sugar or cream added to it because you’re getting so much sweetness from the zebra dome itself. The coffee itself, though, doesn’t have a lot of sweetness, although if you give it a good stir before drinking it, you get those other flavors in it. This is a great addition to the menu.
Nosh or Not
This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…
- You’re staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Booking a reservation for breakfast at BOMA is a no-brainer if you’re staying at the hotel it’s located at.
- You want a big breakfast before your day in Animal Kingdom. This is a great place to book before you visit Animal Kingdom because you can just Uber over from your regular hotel and then take the bus to the park when you’re done.
- You want a breakfast that’s a little different. Although you’ll find something to please nearly every palate at Boma, you’ll also find some unique African flavors that no other Disney World buffet is going to offer.
You should skip this Disney World spot if…
- You’re not staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge. It is a trek to get over to Animal Kingdom Lodge from most other parts of Disney World.
- You want a small breakfast. If you just want something simple, like a muffin and coffee, to get your day started, this buffet would offer entirely too much food.
- You want a character breakfast. Yes, this is a buffet, but you won’t find any characters here.
Overall
It’s understandable why Boma remains so popular with Disney World visitors. It’s the most unique buffet on the property, and you have so many different options to choose from when you have breakfast here. It also offers a great introduction to the flavors of Africa without getting TOO outside the box, if you’re interested in trying something new. Also, unlimited POG juice…need we say more?
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!
