Let’s talk about something we absolutely love: cake. We love cake in all kinds of shapes, configurations, and flavors. We love cupcakes, and we love cake pops, cake bars, and we love cake slices.
Now, there are several places in Disney World where you can grab some really good cake slices, but there’s one bakery we keep going back to again and again because it has those kinds of cake slices that make you feel like you’re celebrating a special occasion even when you’re not. So yep, we’re back at The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers to try a new cake slice flavor.
The Cake Bake Shop is at Disney’s BoardWalk, and it has a reputation of being, well…pricey. Cake slices go for around $22-$23 here, and given that there are cheaper cake slices to be had in Disney World, it’s kinda’ controversial. But here’s the thing…we’ve never had a cake slice here that didn’t feel like something OTHER, and that’s what this bakery and restaurant does really well. It makes you feel like you’re having a special day, even if you’re not celebrating anything special.
So let’s talk about this new cake slice we tried. It’s the Inside Out German Chocolate Cake, and it has three layers of French Valrhona chocolate cake filled with silky Callebaut Belgian chocolate ganache and a brown sugar cream packed with sliced almonds, toasted pecans, and shredded coconut. Right off the bat, you know you’re getting high-quality ingredients. But it’s also a pretty big and heavy slice of cake, making it shareable, which also gives it more value.
The cake itself is fluffy and moist with a texture that makes your mouth sing. It’s not too rich, but it’s definitely a chocolate-lover’s dream. We could also eat that chocolate ganache with a spoon, no kidding. It’s almost like smooth fudge. Then you’ve got the filling that adds more texture and more flavors, but it’s all really well-balanced so that no one flavor overpowers the rest. And of course, the whole thing is covered in edible glitter to make it just that much more magical.
Again, this is a place you want to go to when you’re feeling celebratory, even if you just want to celebrate that it’s Tuesday. If you’re going to pay $22 for a cake slice, we’ll tell you this…it’s worth it.
We’ll be reviewing more new snacks (and more cake) in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more reviews.

I enjoy the meals from Cake Bake. Good food. Very elegant ambiance. But the cakes are just not up to par. Funny how it’s called the cake bake because the cakes while a hype and bring customers to experience the hype it’s definitely not a draw because of the actual cake. They are to rough in texture and the frosting is extremely bland and have the texture of a jello pudding type consistency. The mouth feel is off putting. There so many other bakeries on the Disney Resort that offer a far better dessert experience. And at a much less hit on the pocket. I’m not saying the cake is terrible what I am saying is for the cost you’re definitely over paying. I’m sure there may be responses saying they are amazing and so on. But it doesn’t change the fact of the baking process and the result. But if it’s something you like and that’s your thing spend the money. When in Disney and your trying to make your money stretch go elsewhere for a dessert you’ll be rewarded for if your thinking of buying a cake here, your simply going to say you’ve been there.
I’ll still take my Gideon’s cake, where I can get 2 slices for the price of one piece at Cake Bake Shop. Also, when I bought some things here last fall, I was surprised that the CBS doesn’t give you a free small bag to carry out the items you buy. You have to purchase one, and with the prices they already charge, I thought that was ridiculous. I won’t deny that their pastries are good, but I don’t think I would go back.
